(AP) — A Virginia teacher who was shot and wounded by her 6-year-old student said it has changed her life and she has vivid memories and nightmares about that day. “I just will never forget the look on his face that he gave me while he pointed the gun directly at me,” first-grade teacher Abby Zwerner said during an exclusive interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie about the student. “It's changed me. New year, same story for Rockets as Splash Brothers fuel blowout loss
The James Harden era in Houston may feel like a distant memory for Rockets ' fans, but the team's main rival in Harden's tenure is still rolling along as the 2022-23 season comes to a close. The more things change at the Toyota Center, the more they stay the same for Stephen Curry and the Warriors. It hasn't exactly been business as usual for Curry and the Warriors this season. Golden State's title defense is on relatively rocky ground even after Monday's 121-108 win over the hapless Rockets, with the defending champions now sporting an ugly road record of 7–29. But Monday's return to Houston helped the Warriors look largely like their dynastic selves. Curry led all scorers with 30 points, Klay Thompson added 29, and a late surge Golden State made all look right in the Bay Area. For Warriors coach Steve Kerr, returning to the Toyota Center brings a bit of a spark for his veteran group. "This is a great reminder every time we come to the Toyota Center of some amazing battles with … [Read more...] about New year, same story for Rockets as Splash Brothers fuel blowout loss
Used Car Prices Down 8.7 Percent From Last Year, According To Study
After reaching record highs last year, used car prices continue to fall according to the latest study from iSeeCars. Through February 2023, overall prices have dropped 4.7 percent since September 2022. Year-over-year, the difference is even greater at 8.7 percent. Over 1.8 million used vehicle sales of models ranging from one to five years old were analyzed for the study. With the exception of a sharp jump in December, the study shows a decreasing trend over the last six months. The average used-car price was $33,368 in September, compared to $31,815 for February. Last year, the average cost was $34,839. However, the study notes that, despite the decrease, current prices are still higher than they were before the COVID pandemic. Taking a deeper dive shows significant price reductions for some models. In the last six months, transaction prices for the Tesla Model 3 plunged 21.5 percent. That equates to a decline of $11,302 compared to September 2022, … [Read more...] about Used Car Prices Down 8.7 Percent From Last Year, According To Study

Houston is in for one hell of a hot spring, experts warn
As if Houston's notoriously steaming summers weren't enough: now we're at risk of boiling alive during the spring, too. According to experts at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Houstonians should brace themselves for an especially sweltering spring this year. "Above-average temperatures are favored for much of the southern and eastern half of the U.S. For April through June, the greatest chance for above-average temperatures exists from the southern High Plains eastward to Florida, and northward along the East Coast," NOAA officials wrote in their 2023 Spring Outlook . The NOAA's seasonal temperature outlook for April, May and June shows that Houston—and nearly all of Texas—should see temperatures about 50 to 60 percent above normal for those months. This places Houston and the Lone Star State among just a handful of southeastern states with temperatures forecasted to get more than 50 percent above normal ranges from past years. This means things … [Read more...] about Houston is in for one hell of a hot spring, experts warn
Red Bull’s dominance risks triggering the reaction they are anxious to avoid · RaceFans
After Liberty Media took over Formula 1 at the end of 2016 it installed former team principal Ross Brawn in charge of the series. Reinvigorating what had become an increasingly uncompetitive championship ranked highly among his priorities. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The new owners ousted Bernie Ecclestone, whose favourable commercial deals with F1’s top teams ensured the richest outfits received the greatest financial rewards, which in turn guaranteed their continued success and gradually eliminated competition for the top places. Changing that deeply entrenched advantage would prove an enormous challenge. After Liberty Media’s first two seasons in charge, Brawn reflected that the domination of F1’s podium positions by Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari had only been broken on two occasions in that time. “ Two podiums from a total of 123 is unacceptable ,” he said. “Especially when it comes with an ever-increasing technical and financial divide. … [Read more...] about Red Bull’s dominance risks triggering the reaction they are anxious to avoid · RaceFans
Tsunoda “expected much worse” after narrowly missing points again · RaceFans
Yuki Tsunoda said AlphaTauri was losing out to its rivals in the straights and corners in Jeddah after narrowly missing a points finish for the second race in a row. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free From 15th on the grid, Tsunoda climbed to sixth in the first third of the 50-lap Saudi Arabian Grand Prix before pitting. He then ran in eighth but lacked the pace of the cars behind him and eventually finished 11th. He described it as a “pretty tough” race. “I gave my 100% effort every lap, and still couldn’t [retain position],” Tsunoda said of his lengthy second stint in the race. “Lost positions like that in the end in the last four laps, so I’m just really frustrated.” On a high-speed track where very few of the corners require braking, Tsunoda said his AlphaTauri AT04 “lost too much pace in the straights, and a couple of corners that required downforce.” He “had to put in 100% effort in sector one to maximise the pace from our car to make the gap as much … [Read more...] about Tsunoda “expected much worse” after narrowly missing points again · RaceFans
Formula 1 cannot go on like this, warns Brawn · RaceFans
Formula 1’s managing director of motorsport Ross Brawn has warned the wide gap in performance between the top three teams in the rest is “unacceptable”. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Brawn pointed out just two podium finishes in the last two years were scored by a team other than Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull. “Two podiums from a total of 123 is unacceptable,” said Brawn, “especially when it comes with an ever increasing technical and financial divide. “It’s a problem we are tackling together with the FIA and the teams, because the future of Formula 1 depends on it.” Formula One Management is planning technical and sporting changes for the 2021 season which will include the introduction of a budget gap to improve the competition between the largest and smallest teas. “There are various solutions on the table and we must all accept that we can’t go on like this for too much longer,” said Brawn, who said those not in the top three teams were … [Read more...] about Formula 1 cannot go on like this, warns Brawn · RaceFans
