The segment-busting BMW X6 debuted in 2008, but before the current-generation SAC (sports activity coupe, in BMW-speak) retires, an X6 M Design Edition has been announced. As an attempt to remind people of the X6’s existence, the special — and optional — stripes of the limited-editon X6 M shown here isn’t a bad place to start. Featuring the three-colored M stripes, the BMW X6 M Design Edition is limited to just 100 units. Aside from the 21-inch wheels and paint accents front and rear, the X6 M also gets bold Mugello Red interior accents in the form of stitching on the leather-covered dash and seats, as well as a big red stripe across the top of the dash. Of course, the special-edition model wouldn’t be complete without a plaque on the piano-black dash noting where in the 100-unit production run your car falls. Carbon fiber accents cover the X6 M’s front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler. The BMW X6 M is powered by a 555-hp turbocharged … [Read more...] about BMW X6 M Design Edition Wears Bold M Performance Stripes

Recently, the latest additions to the M GmbH family, both the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M were officially released, allowing BMW to venture into the high performance, high ground clearance vehicle segment, a segment which was, till now, dominated by the Porsche Cayenne. According to BimmerFile, it now has the juicy pricing details for both the twin-turbo SUV’s. The slightly modest looking BMW X5 M can be fetched for US$ 85,400, while the ‘coupe-ish’ X6 M carries a US$ 88,900 price tag (yes, only US$ 3,000 difference). The above mentioned prices should be for the base-line models, as you can expect them to hike up a little as you add more ticks on the options list. Both all wheel drive performance SUV’s are powered by the M TwinPower Turbo engine, which is a 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 that is able to crank out 555HP between 5,750rpm to 6,000rpm and 680Nm of torque between 1,500rpm to 5,650rpm. Both cars can sprint to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, all the way up to a governed … [Read more...] about U.S pricing for BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M leaks out

Those of you who have managed to snag one of the 700 units of the now sold-out BMW M4 GTS should consider yourselves lucky. If, however, you still find Munich’s ultimate lightweight sports car somewhat lacking, then German tuner G-Power might just have the answer for you. In fact, it has already been the answer for three of those owners, who have come to the company for their extra speed fix. G-Power’s upgrades to the 3.0 litre twin-turbo straight six – with water injection, no less – are pretty thorough. These include significantly-modified turbochargers that use larger turbine and compression wheels, designed and built in-house to move more air and reduce inertia, improving throttle response. The housings themselves have been modified through CNC machining. A bonus side effect of the turbos’ improved overall efficiency is the reduction of exhaust gas temperatures, allowing the turbochargers themselves to run at higher boost pressures. Meanwhile, exhaust … [Read more...] about BMW M4 GTS tuned by G-Power gains modified turbochargers, stainless steel downpipes, hits 615 hp!
In the current economic climate, we’re not sure we’d christen a car ‘The Tycoon’. It’s a bit, well… conspicuous, isn’t it? Then again, we are not Hamann, the German tuner responsible for some of the most conspicuous automotive creations of recent years. This is Hamann’s take on the BMW X6 M, dubbed the Tycoon Evo M, and it is aptly named. Treating BMW’s 4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 to a high-flow exhaust and a reprogrammed ECU, the Tycoon packs an upsetting 670bhp and 576lb ft of torque - 115bhp and 74lb ft more than the standard car. Which means it’ll obliterate 62mph in 4.2 seconds before running on to a top speed of 186mph. Four point two! In an SUV-thing! Why? For the love of Manilow, why? Fattened by a diet of foie gras, truffles and sticky toffee pudding, the Tycoon is a full 12cm wider than the stock X6 M. It sits on 23-inch wheels and fecklessly trades shares in pyramid schemes. It defies financial … [Read more...] about BMW X6 M news – Hamann Tycoon: ruthless – 2010
You know the old line about the inmates running the asylum? Well, the asylum’s been handing out engineering degrees, and the inmates are now running BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche. Meet the Unicorns — three cars, in the words of Raoul Duke, too weird to live and too rare to die. Each is a manifestation of a novel concept: maximum performance mated to oodles of capacity and practicality. All three vehicles are also patently absurd, in the very best possible sense of the word-so bizarre that we had to road-trip them to the only American city capable of standing up to this trio’s epic level of whoa: Las Vegas. First, an over-the-top snack. Hubert Keller’s Burger Bar in the Mandalay Bay serves something called the Rossini. This umami-laced indulgence features Kobe beef, sautéed foie gras, shaved truffles, and an onion bun. It’s served with a reduced brown sauce and — wait for it — costs $60. At first blush, you might think the Rossini a grotesque … [Read more...] about Comparison: 2011 BMW X6 M vs. 2011 Cadillac CTS-V vs. 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo
[zenphotopress number=99 album=238] One of the earliest ways for a Middle Eastern customer to see a BMW X6 M in action in person is at the MotoGP 2009 leg in Qatar, which happens right now during this weekend. It’s done up in a nice traditional M paint job which includes white paint and blue and BMW M stripes. The BMW X6 M will function as a safety car alongside its sibling the BMW M6. The fact that they paired these two cars together further implies BMW marketing’s want to position this is a bona fide coupe, or a … [Read more...] about BMW X6 M to function as MotoGP 2009 safety car
BMW Group Malaysia has launched the second-generation BMW X6 M. The big SAC (that’s Sports Activity Coupe) is powered by a 4.4 litre V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine said to be the most powerful engine developed for the firm’s all-wheel drive models. With 575 hp and 750 Nm of torque – 20 hp and 10% more torque than before – the X6 M does the century sprint in 4.2 seconds. Despite this, fuel consumption and C02 emissions have been reduced to 11.1 litres per 100 km and 258 g/km respectively. The engine is mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and power is laid down via xDrive with Dynamic Performance Control. This latter has electronically adjustable damping for Comfort, Sport and Sport + modes, while the M Servotronic steering system allows for various steering parameters to suit driver preferences. The 21-inch M alloy wheels now come with non-runflat tyres for better steering response and greater handling. The front façade has large … [Read more...] about F86 BMW X6 M launched in Malaysia – RM1.24 mil
The BMW X6 M carries many ‘firsts’ for a BMW M car. It’s the first M car with all-wheel drive, the first M car with a torque converter automatic and also the first M car with a turbocharged engine! And it’s also happens to be the first BMW to be launched this year, so we should see a few 555 horsepower behemoths roaming Malaysian roads and giving chase to Cayenne Turbos soon. The X6 M is of course immediately identifiable by its different looks compared to the regular X6 which happens to be quite popular in Malaysia as well. The entire bodywork is body colour, losing the little grey bits at the lower part of the body that the regular X6 has. The rear of course has the trademark M quad exhaust pipes. Wheels are huge 20 inchers wrapped with 275/40R20 at the front and 315/35R20 at the rear – this baby’s front tyres are thicker than my E39’s rear tyres! The price to own one of these? RM1,188,800, which is significantly more than a BMW M6, the most … [Read more...] about BMW X6 M now available in Malaysia!
The new BMW X5 M and new BMW X6 M (fuel consumption combined for both models: 11.1 l/100 km (25.5 mpg imp); CO2 emissions combined for both models: 258 g/km)* see BMW M GmbH setting the pace once again in the high-performance Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) segment.
