We’ve seen the G21-generation BMW 3 Series Touring once before, though here our spy photographers have managed to capture images of the junior station wagon’s interior. The car appears similar to its previous sighting, where it was equipped with the M Sport bodykit that boasts of a deep, wide front intake with smaller ones at each corner. A similar treatment for its side profile and rear-end make a reappearance here. The interior corresponds with what we’ve seen within the G20 sedan, which includes usage of a common gearlever, steering wheel, instrument cluster and infotainment display. Where the G21 will be differentiated from its sedan sibling is in the rear quarters, though images of this section haven’t surfaced just yet. Otherwise, the forthcoming 3 Series station wagon will employ a front occupant cabin that is basically identical to its three-box shaped stablemate, and technical specifications should be close, too. Powertrain options for the G21 should … [Read more...] about SPIED: G21 BMW 3 Series Touring

August 10, 2018, 3:31 am by Ronan Glon ‹ › The 4 Series Gran Coupe will live on, though. Sources within BMW have allegedly confirmed what everyone suspected: the controversial 3 Series Gran Turismo will retire without a direct successor. The 4 Series Gran Coupe will survive, however.Citing anonymous insiders, enthusiast website BMW Blog reports production of the 3 Series GT (pictured) will end in July of 2020. It won't get a replacement because it's not popular enough in key markets like Europe, North America, and Asia. Its design remains controversial and it's largely overshadowed by the standard 3 Series sedan, the 3 Series station wagon, and the 4 Series Gran Coupe.Speaking of the 4 Series, the model is popular enough to merit a replacement and the second-generation model is already in the works. It will again share many of its mechanical components with the 3 Series while offering a sportier design. The spacious hatchback configuration and the frame-less doors will … [Read more...] about BMW to cancel 3 Series GT?
What can be said about the BMW X3 that we haven't already been through? It's a compact SUV which would be better off as a four-by-four station wagon, just as AMC showed us. Funny thing though when you're developing a new X3 to come out sometime before 2011, you may need to wrap the test power train in something other than the final sheetmetal — like the modified body of an E91 3-series station wagon. Another funny thing about the situation is the resultant car looks freakin' great! With this mule we're really beginning to wonder if the X3 wouldn't be better off this way. What do you think? Despite slowing sales in the face of SUVs’ growing popularity, the station wagon continues to feature in many a model line-up, and so it appears to be the case for the forthcoming BMW 3 Series. Following the sightings of G20-generation test mules, a development vehicle for the corresponding estate version has now surfaced, slated to bear the model code G21. At first glance, the G21 development car here appears to be wearing M Sport kit, with a front bumper sporting a deep, wide air intake bookended by a smaller one at each corner. The front of the car corresponds with what we’ve seen on G20 test mules so far, and the mid-body character line goes from the front fender to the top of the rear wheel arch. Given the G21’s wagon shell, the long roof ends in a sloping rear windscreen, and when viewd in profile, the tailgate wears a full-width bulge which accentuates the tail lights, and is in line with the secondary character line which goes from just ahead of the A-pillar … [Read more...] about SPYSHOTS: G21 BMW 3 Series Touring spotted testing
