Ford’s decision to offer the venerable Mustang in more markets (including Malaysia) has proved to be a good one, as the iconic pony car has been named the best-selling sports car in the world in 2016. This is according to IHS Markit global automotive registration data in the sports car segment. According to the Blue Oval, over 150,000 Mustangs were sold last year, which was a 6% increase from 2015. From that total, 45,000 units were sold in markets outside the United States, representing a growth of 101% from international markets. The Mustang is now sold in 140 countries, and Ford has plans to add another six more countries to that long list. This includes Brazil, the Palau Islands and the Ivory Coast, with three additional markets to be announced later. Not bad, considering 2016 is the second year of Ford officially exporting the Mustang to markets outside the U.S. Ford also notes that since its decision to begin Mustang exports in 2015, a total of 98,000 units have made their … [Read more...] about Ford Mustang – world’s best-selling sports car in 2016

2015 was a huge year for new vehicle sales, with the 17.4 million cars and trucks sold setting an all-time record in the U.S. Trucks and SUVs were a big part of the success story, making big gains across the board, and nearly every major automaker was up compared to 2014. We crunched the numbers to find the 10 best-selling cars, trucks, and SUVs of 2015. 1. Ford F-Series: 780,354 units sold, up 3.5 percent This past year was anything but ordinary for Ford’s perennial pickup. An all-new model with a lightweight, fully-aluminum body went on sale, and despite a comprehensive retooling for the F-Series’ production facilities, it still came out on top. It even eked out a slight increase over 2014, though the sales numbers do include plenty of previous-generation F-150s that were sold during the model transition. 2. Chevrolet Silverado: 600,544 units sold, up 13.4 percent Chevy’s truck continued to occupy the number two spot, and posted a big 13.4 percent bump over … [Read more...] about The Top 10 Best-Selling Cars of 2015
Not content with leading the sales charts in Germany, the Ford Mustang has been announced as the best-selling sports coupe worldwide in 2015. According to the Blue Oval, the achievement comes following its first year of global availability in 140 markets. Ford managed to sell around 110,000 Mustang Coupes, making it the only sports coupe to sell more than 100,000 units in 2015. Ford sold around 30,000 Mustang Convertibles, for total nameplate sales of 141,868 vehicles – making the Mustang the best-selling two-door sports car in the world. More impressively, the record was achieved despite limited availability for most of the year in key markets like China and the United Kingdom. Data from 2015 indicated that sales of the Mustang has the potential to grow overseas in 2016 as many markets begin to take delivery of their full allocation. Erich Merkle, Ford sales analyst stated that global customers are most interested in V8-equipped Mustangs. A brief breakdown of the numbers … [Read more...] about Ford Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports car
electric vehicle sales have been a bit of a mixed bag recently, but there's one category of electrified vehicles that is quite popular. That'd be used vehicles, where numbers from iSeeCars show that five of the ten best-selling used vehicles from the 2013 to 2015 model years are electrified in some way. Best-selling here doesn't mean that they're sold most often, but they spend the least amount of time on dealer lots. The national average for a used 2013-2015 car that was listed on iSeeCars in the first half of 2016 was 42.4 days. There were 2.2 million such vehicles listed, and CheatSheet notes that there the overall average for an electric car (which it defines as a plug-in hybrid, a standard non-plug hybrid, and a pure electric vehicles) had an average of just 29.2 days and that "5 of the 10 fastest-selling used models were either a hybrid, PHEV, or EV." The three best-selling electric vehicles found on iSeeCars were the Tesla Model S (26.1 days), the Nissan Leaf (24.3 days), and … [Read more...] about 5 of the 10 best-selling used cars from 2013-2015 are electrified

The Toyota Camry, America’s best-selling passenger car in 2016 for a 15th consecutive year, was not the best-selling overall vehicle in any one state last year.According to registration figures tabulated by Kelley Blue Book and highlighted by USA Today, the Honda Accord, Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla were the only cars to claim any state-wide auto sales victories. In 15 other states, utility vehicles of one variety or another (Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Subaru Outback, and Toyota RAV4) were tops in overall vehicle sales. Hawaii’s sales crown stayed in the hands of the Toyota Tacoma. GM’s full-size truck twins ruled the roost in eight states, largely east of the Mississippi. That leaves the Ford F-Series’ F-150 variant, the top-selling vehicle in America, to take top honors in 22 states, including its biggest market of Texas.StateMost Popular Vehicle In 2016Nationwide RankAlabamaFord F-150#1AlaskaFord F-150#1ArizonaFord F-150#1ArkansasGMC Sierra … [Read more...] about America’s Best-Selling Vehicles in 2016, State by State – What Are Your Neighbors Buying?
Canadian passenger car sales are falling, not unpredictably, as SUVs and crossovers continue to earn an increasingly large chunk of market share. And yet at the top of the passenger car leaderboard, Canada’s two best-selling cars are selling at a record pace, with no small amount of help from new hatchback body styles.Bucking the Canadian, North American, and global anti-car trend most distinctly is the Honda Civic, Canada’s best-selling car in each of the last 19 years.Indeed, so strong have Civic sales been through the first-quarter of 2017, we’re ready to make a projection. Make it a confirmation. We’ll say it with certainty. Honda Canada’s Civic streak will reach a full two decades, twenty years, as the Civic becomes Canada’s best-selling car in 2017.The Civic’s lead is already insurmountable.Bolstered by surging industry-wide new vehicle demand in a record first-quarter of 2017, Honda Civic sales have jumped 23 percent, … [Read more...] about There Are Nine Months Left In 2017, But We Already the Honda Civic Will Be Canada’s Best-Selling Car This Year
The best-selling Toyota subcompact in America is a Mexican-built Mazda that’s sold as a Scion and will soon be sold as a Toyota. It’s a car that’s already called the Yaris R in Mexico and the Yaris Sedan in Canada.Meanwhile, Toyota’s once hot-selling subcompact, the Toyota-branded Yaris, is a hatchback imported from France that scarcely attracts any attention at all.In between, Toyota’s actual Japanese-built Prius C is increasingly unpopular.Scion’s best-selling car since its launch last fall, the iA, is far from a major player in America’s declining subcompact car market. (Overall, subcompact sales actually increased in February, albeit only slightly, after tumbling in January.) Combined, the Toyota subcompact trio owns 15 percent of U.S. subcompact sales through the first two months of 2016, up from 12 percent a year ago, prior to the dawn of the iA.With a three-pronged approach, Toyota is therefore outselling all but the two … [Read more...] about Toyota’s Best-Selling Subcompact Is A Scion-Badged Mazda, Naturally
The Ford Transit was America’s best-selling van in March 2016 and the first-quarter of 2016, full stop. Not just the best-selling full-size commercial van. Not just the best-selling commercial van overall. The Ford Transit was America’s best-selling van, besting all of its direct rivals as well as each and every minivan.Much has been made of the all-American Ford Mustang’s one-month stand in Germany. Even if the Mustang’s “Best-Selling Sports Car In Germany” status is only temporarily grasped, it certainly was a noteworthy turn of events. Meanwhile, Ford of Europe’s long-running commercial van, now Americanized, is dominating on our side of the Atlantic.Ford accomplished this feat on the strength of the Transit’s ever-increasing volume, not because of particularly poor minivan sales. Year-over-year, U.S. sales of seven people carriers (Town & Country, Grand Caravan, Odyssey, Sedona, Mazda5, Quest, Sienna) jumped 30 percent to 143,482 … [Read more...] about Ford Transit Is America’s Best-Selling Van, Minivans Included
