Bathurst Supercars: Mostert completes practice sweep

· February 26, 2021 ·

Mostert proved his Practice 1 pace was no fluke mid-way through the second session when he cleared the field by more than half a second with a 2m05.103s. It wasn't until the final few minutes, when the new tyres came out for qualifying sims, that Mostert's time came under threat. It was his former teammate Waters that lowered the benchmark, the Tickford ace banking the first four of the weekend with a 2m04.781s. Mostert had the answer, though, responding on a final green tyre run with a 2m04.792s to grab top spot by 0.01s. There was a handsome gap to the rest of the field, Scott Pye and Tim Slade both six-tenths behind Mostert. The pair traded blows in latter part of the session, Pye ultimately getting the better of Slade by 0.02s. There was a pair of Boost-backed entries next in line, James Courtney leading Brodie Kostecki, with Bryce Fullwood seventh fastest. Shane van Gisbergen finished eighth without getting the best of his new tyre run. The Kiwi had set … [Read more...] about Bathurst Supercars: Mostert completes practice sweep

Designed In India, Prototyped In India, Made in India — Shalendra Gupta, Co-Founder & CFO, Altigreen

· September 12, 2017 ·

Home Off beat oi-Rajkamal By Rajkamal Updated: Saturday, February 27, 2021, 4:25 [IST] The Indian automotive industry, along with other countries around the worlds is moving away from Internal Combustion (IC) engines. India is promoting the use of electric and hybrid vehicles to save the air. Although infrastructure for the use of such vehicles is at a nascent stage, an increasing number of new car buyers are considering electric vehicles. Hybrid vehicles are a good alternative too, but what is shying away customers is the prices post-GST, that have made hybrid vehicles expensive. But one company, nestled away in the industrial area of Bangalore, Whitefield, has come up with an ingenious solution to turn any vehicles to a hybrid one. Wait, what? Shalendra Gupta, Co-Founder & CFO, Altigreen Propulsion Labs That's right, Altigreen, a startup based in Bangalore has come up with something called the Hybrid Power … [Read more...] about Designed In India, Prototyped In India, Made in India — Shalendra Gupta, Co-Founder & CFO, Altigreen

Ferrari confident straightline speed weakness is fixed

· February 26, 2021 ·

The Italian outfit endured a frustrating 2020 campaign, with its SF1000 hampered by both a down-on-power engine and too draggy aerodynamics. It left drivers Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel down on top speed for the straights, which hampered hopes against rival teams. The team has worked hard over the winter at its Maranello base to address the deficits, and it has confidence that it will not suffer the same weakness this time around. Speaking at a Ferrari 2021 launch event on Friday, team principal Mattia Binotto expressed his confidence that the squad was in better shape both with its engine and its aerodynamic efficiency. "I think that last year the main issue was the speed on the straight lines, not only the power but both power and drag," he explained. "We've worked a lot, both on the power unit, and the car aerodynamics, to reduce the drag of the car. "And based on our simulations today, based on what we can see in terms of power output from the … [Read more...] about Ferrari confident straightline speed weakness is fixed

Four-Cylinder Mercedes-AMG C63 Details Emerge: 4,400 LBS, AWD, 550 HP

· February 26, 2021 ·

That's 2,000 kilograms for our metric-loving audience. The next AMG C63 losing its V8 for an electrified engine with half the cylinders is yesterday’s news, but a new report from Car Magazine offers fresh details about the already much-criticized hybrid powertrain. Mercedes will allegedly be using the same 2.0-liter four-banger from the AMG A45 with an electric twist by adding an integrated starter-generator (ISG) and a rear-mounted electric motor. That sounds like a recipe for a heavy car, which the next AMG C63 will be if we were to rely on the newly released report. We’re hearing it will tip the scales at nearly 4,409 pounds (2,000 kilograms), which if accurate, would make it about 535 lbs (243 kg) heavier than the outgoing C63 sedan before options. These are all rough numbers at this point, but you get the idea – the new C63 will be quite the porker. 2022 Maserati GranTurismo Spied For First Time Hiding Under Alfa Body

· February 26, 2021 ·

Maserati will reveal the new coupe sometime this year. Automakers do their best to keep their future products a secret. Ferrari is hiding its Purosangue crossover underneath a Maserati Levante , and Maserati has taken note, doing the same with its new GranTurismo . Our first spy photos of the new coupe show the Italian automaker hiding the car underneath an Alfa Romeo Giulia body, though the test vehicle features an unusually long front end. The front of the test vehicle looks ungainly and disproportional. While it clearly wears the Giulia body, there’s far more sheet metal between the front wheel and the door than there’d typically be, which could mean Maserati is using this to test and develop its powertrains. The 2022 GranTurismo could receive the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 offered in the new MC20 , where the engine makes a potent 621 horsepower (463 kilowatts) and 538 pound-feet (729 Newton-meters) of torque. However, there are rumors of a 4.0-liter V8 also … [Read more...] about 2022 Maserati GranTurismo Spied For First Time Hiding Under Alfa Body
