One of the things that makes Carwow videos interesting is how they compare cars in different ways. In this case, a power-to-weight comparison between a BMW M240i, AMG A45, Audi RS3, and Golf R. But the best part? It's entertaining to watch. It starts with the Volkswagen Golf R . Powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with an advertised 320 horsepower, it's equipped with a seven-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive. The owner thinks his car makes somewhere around 325 horsepower, which turns out to be almost on the nose. The highest of three dyno runs came in at 324.6 horsepower. Next up is the BMW M240i. As one of the more powerful versions of the BMW 2 Series , the M240i came equipped with a 3.0-liter turbo cranking out 347 horsepower. Like the Golf R, the owner of the BMW thinks 347 is a bit low, in this case, it should be closer to 400 horsepower. Again, the car makes more power than advertised, but at 375 horsepower, it's shy of what the owner expected. Moving … [Read more...] about BMW M240i v AMG A45 v Audi RS3 v Golf R Dyno Comparison

Juan Pablo Montoya predicts we will see ‘a different Lewis Hamilton’ in 2023
Juan Pablo Montoya believes “a different Lewis Hamilton” will be on show in 2023, if Mercedes are onto a winner with the W14. Hamilton went a full season without a win for the first time in his Formula 1 career last year, with Mercedes struggling for pace compared to Ferrari and Red Bull alongside their issues with porpoising on the W13. While he still took nine podium finishes, Hamilton used the first part of the season to take experimental setups on his car as the team searched for solutions, while team-mate George Russell racked up consecutive top-five finishes. Russell would outscore Hamilton over the course of the season, though, as the younger Mercedes driver earned his first pole position and victory in Formula 1 in Hungary and Brazil respectively. Montoya praised Hamilton for his pragmatic approach to driving and not pushing too hard when he didn’t need to last season, but he predicted the seven-time World Champion will be back to his best again in the year ahead. … [Read more...] about Juan Pablo Montoya predicts we will see ‘a different Lewis Hamilton’ in 2023

Max Verstappen denies budget cap penalty ‘hanging over’ Red Bull development
Max Verstappen has said Red Bull “never really talk about” their budget cap penalty and how it may impact their season, instead wanting to focus on developing the best car possible for 2023. Red Bull head into the year off the back of being found guilty of a ‘minor overspend breach’ of the 2021 budget cap, for which the team was fined $7million, though the effects of the penalty may not be felt until this year, as part of their punishment contains a 10% reduction in CFD [computational fluid dynamics] resources for the season, which directly impacts their time in the wind tunnel. In theory, this will mean there is less scope for Red Bull to develop the RB19 as the season progresses – with the team being forced to pick and choose when they want to use their allocated wind tunnel runs even more carefully as a result of the penalty. Along with being allowed the fewest wind tunnel runs of any team as reigning Constructors’ champions, this further penalty will give extra time to their … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen denies budget cap penalty ‘hanging over’ Red Bull development
Is Mercedes’ mystery “big step forward” enough for Russell to beat Ferrari? · RaceFans
On the back of Ferrari’s strongest Friday – and Red Bull’s weakest – for many months in Hungary, cynical observers questioned just how Ferrari would manage to end up being beaten to pole position on Saturday. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free As it turned out, those expectations were well founded. But it was not Max Verstappen who denied Carlos Sainz Jnr and Charles Leclerc pole position at the Hungaroring and nor was it Sergio Perez. It was not even the man with the most poles in the history of Formula 1 – Lewis Hamilton. Instead, Ferrari were stunned by George Russell , who delivered a fantastic final lap to deny Sainz and take a shock maiden pole position of his career, despite not setting a single fastest sector in the process. For Mercedes, it was a stunning turnaround from their poor Friday – and no one was more stunned than the team themselves. “It’s a total unknown,” Russell admitted. “We’ve turned the car upside down since yesterday.” … [Read more...] about Is Mercedes’ mystery “big step forward” enough for Russell to beat Ferrari? · RaceFans
