Listen to this article The 20-lap race saw the top-five finishers covered by less than a tenth of a second, as Binder prevailed over Fabio di Giannantonio by a mere 0.038s. Having seized the advantage on the run down to the first corner at the start of the final lap, the South African just gave himself the margin he needed to protect his lead as Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Quartararo battled over second place. "Today's race was crazy - I was in first, 10th, eighth; it was so difficult to plan," said Binder. "But I tried to keep back in the group so I could arrive on the final lap at least in the top three." Both Bagnaia and Quartararo found themselves outdragged on the run to the finish by 17-year-old rookie di Giannantonio, who had scored no points prior to Mugello. Mahindra rider Bagnaia hung for third, marking his third podium visit of the year, as Niccolo Antonelli pipped Quartararo for fourth place. Completing in the top 10 were Hiroki Ono, Joan Mir, Niccolo … [Read more...] about Mugello Moto3: Binder wins epic slipstream battle to stretch points lead

Guenther Steiner vows all resources will be invested into striking new VF-23
Guenther Steiner has no intention of spending money on “other stuff”, the Haas team boss adamant their only investment right now is “in the car”. Haas unveiled their new-look 2023 livery , the American outfit swapping out last year’s white for a predominantly black car that is sponsored by MoneyGram. It’s Haas’ third title sponsor in the team’s brief Formula 1 history having previously partnered Rich Energy and Uralkali, neither of which ended on a good note. That has at times left the team in a financial hole, but it’s one Steiner says was never as bad as it was made out to be. “I’d say we were never in a bad position,” he told Motorsport.com in an interview when asked if MoneyGram’s arrival had put the team in a better position. “2020 was not an easy position, because of the pandemic when that broke out. But I think yes, it puts us in a very solid position.” PlanetF1 recommends Ranked: The 10 possible F1 2024 destinations for Daniel Ricciardo in order of … [Read more...] about Guenther Steiner vows all resources will be invested into striking new VF-23
Houston pet owners must now microchip their animals to avoid fine
Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 1, the City of Houston will require all dog and cat owners to microchip their pets . City officials say the microchips will help the city return lost pets to their owners and register them. Houston City Council passed an ordinance in 2022 to require any resident in the city that owns a dog or a cat at least four months old to be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. The year-long grace period ends Wednesday as the law goes into effect. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner reminded residents in a Houston City Council meeting on Wednesday morning. "Please get your pets chipped, and let's move forward," Turner said. In an interview with KHOU 11 , BARC Deputy Director Cory Stottlemeyer said the microchip is to help pet owners and city officials find pets in case they're lost. "You could be the best pet owner in the world, but when a stressful situation happens, anything, anything can happen," Stottlemeyer told KHOU. The BARC Animal Shelter , … [Read more...] about Houston pet owners must now microchip their animals to avoid fine
Texas set to execute Wesley Ruiz despite ongoing fight over state’s use of old lethal injection drugs
On Wednesday evening, Texas plans to execute Wesley Ruiz despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the state’s use of drugs long past their original expiration dates to kill prisoners. Ruiz, 43, was sentenced to death nearly 15 years ago for the 2007 shooting of Dallas police Senior Cpl. Mark Nix following a high-speed car chase. The chase began while police were searching for a murder suspect, according to court documents. Ruiz’s car eventually slid off the side of the road, and Nix rushed over and began smashing the passenger side window with his police baton. Ruiz fatally shot him in the chest through the back passenger window, court filings state. In an active legal battle, Ruiz and other condemned prisoners have argued the state prison system should not be allowed to continue extending the expiration dates of its execution drugs. They claim the use of old drugs violates the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. Argentina Moto3: Pawi stuns field with crushing win on drying track
Listen to this article Despite the track being wet, a few dry patches and no rain meant the entire field kicked off the race on slicks with the exception of Livio Loi. Although he was 10th on the grid, Loi understandably rocketed through the field at the start. However, he could only settle into second as Pawi had an even better launch, and lapped several seconds quicker despite running on dry tyres. Impressively, the Malaysian rookie built a lead of 20 seconds over the course of just eight laps. As the track dried out, most of Pawi's advantage in pace disappeared, but he continued to stretch his advantage. Loi on the other hand quickly dropped down the field, eventually settling for 16th. Estrella Galicia rider Jorge Navarro and another Malaysian Adam Norrodin separated themselves from from the rest of the chasing pack at the halfway point onwards. Norrodin waited for his chance to overtake until the final lap, but lost control at the very final turn of the … [Read more...] about Argentina Moto3: Pawi stuns field with crushing win on drying track
Ferrari need to pick Charles Leclerc as No.1 driver, or risk losing him to a rival team
Even before a single lap has been run in the 2023 Formula 1 season, never mind a race result decided, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has twice been asked to pin his colours to the mast – Charles Leclerc or Carlos Sainz. He went with neither, adamant it’s too early to back one driver over the other. “But,” he wrapped up the first time around, “if at one stage we have to take action, I will take action.” The second time, he ended with “and if at one stage I have to take action for Carlos or for Charles, I will do it.” It’s an action that, should it come, will have long-term consequences. Team-mates at Ferrari for the first time in 2021 it was widely-speculated that Leclerc could have the measure of Sainz, but that wasn’t to be with the Spaniard winning the first round – although only by 5.5 points. However, that was a season in which Ferrari were still trying to get their horse (powers) into order in the wake of their 2019 engine scandal. Once they’d sorted that out, … [Read more...] about Ferrari need to pick Charles Leclerc as No.1 driver, or risk losing him to a rival team
The one major difference in Houston Rockets, Thunder rebuild efforts
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Houston Rockets head coach Stephen Silas was posed a simple question as he met with the media following Tuesday's practice at the Toyota Center. Silas was asked to identify what is separating the rebuilds in Houston and Oklahoma City at the moment before the two squads face off Wednesday evening. As the Rockets enter Wednesday night firmly in the Western Conference cellar, the Thunder find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt, far away from the race to the bottom of the lottery in hopes of landing Victor Wembanyama . Silas highlighted one major reason why Oklahoma City has been able to kickstart its rebuild following All-Star departures across the last half-decade. "They have a really good player who could be a top-10 player in the league," Silas said in reference to Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. "Early, he helped them win some games to where their … [Read more...] about The one major difference in Houston Rockets, Thunder rebuild efforts
Former F1 engineer questions Nico Hulkenberg’s ‘really weird appointment’ at Haas
Former Force India and Red Bull Racing engineer Blake Hinsey has questioned Haas’ decision to bring in Nico Hulkenberg, calling it a “really weird appointment”. Haas announced on the eve of the 2022 season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix they would not be renewing Mick Schumacher’s contract. Instead the team went with “solid, reliable racer” Hulkenberg. The German will partner Kevin Magnussen in an over-30 line-up, Hulkenberg at 35 years of age the third oldest driver on the grid. Although Hulkenberg hasn’t had a permanent race seat for three seasons, team boss Guenther Steiner firmly believes he’s the right man for the job, saying every team he has been with “always made a step forward” because he knows “exactly what needs to be done to make the team better”. But Hinsey, who worked with Hulkenberg at Force India, isn’t convinced. “I like Niko, because he was on the other car when I was at Force India,” he said as per GPFans . “He’s a good driver. “Is he going to be better … [Read more...] about Former F1 engineer questions Nico Hulkenberg’s ‘really weird appointment’ at Haas
