The great thing about the automotive world is that our work is never quite done. There’s so much cool shit in this world that there’s another car to fix, another track to drive, another race to attend. Everyone is uniquely different, but we can all get together at the end of the day and talk longingly about the futures we’re going to conquer. Last week, I asked y’all what was on your automotive bucket list. There were definitely some answers I expected, but you guys have definitely surprised me. So, in lieu of us all grabbing a beer and chatting about what’s up next, I’ve thrown together what I hope will be a pretty decent list that we can all aspire to. Get Back to Manual (Keaton Belliston) This is the coolest bucket list item ever. Keep us updated on your progres! Achievable Goals (tbp0701) Truly wild how many of these are also on my bucket list. Lyft Me Up (dumbgreek) Okay, so that last one is sick. Get me to Japan ASAP. Personal … [Read more...] about The Ultimate Racing Bucket List, As Told By You
Baby bucket list
The bucket list is a well-traveled genre, appealing and customizable across the board for preteen girls and grown-ass adults alike. Don’t act like you haven’t longingly sighed, “shit, I’d really like to do that before I die” because we have all done it. All of us. I want to know what’s on your automotive bucket list. Is there a car you’d love to restore? Something you one hundred percent need to drive before you die? Or is it a race you’d kill to finally get to attend? I’m here for it all. I know you guys have some weird stuff you want to do, and I want to hear it. Personally, I have a lot. I’m dying to compete in a rally event with a car I outfitted myself. Once I upgrade my Mazda 2 for a car with, y’know, larger tires, I’d love to convert that bad boy to a rally car. Would I win? Hell no. Would I have the goddamn time of my life? Oh baby yes. Other than that, I would very much like to drive the … [Read more...] about What’s on Your Automotive Bucket List?
Susan Tompor Detroit Free Press Published 10:00 p.m. UTC Aug 2, 2018 The countdown to retirement can include all sorts of plans — setting aside extra cash in in the 401(k) plan, aiming to pay down debt, dreaming about the first trip you'd like to knock off your bucket list. But retirement experts will tell you that it's the things that you don't plan for that derail retirements all the time. Here's look at five things you might not anticipate when it comes to retiring. 1. No one really knows when it's time to say 'Game over' Many folks on the job in their 40s or 50s might like to think they're going to retire at age 65 or 68. But more likely than not, they end up being way off in their estimates, said David M. Blanchett, head of retirement research for Morningstar Investment Management in Chicago. Reality gets in the way of plans and many Americans end up retiring earlier than expected, Blanchett said. Someone who plans to retire at 65, for example, … [Read more...] about These 3 big surprises can derail your retirement
After five long, grueling, year-long laps as one of Jalopnik’s most beloved and prolific staff writers, we must announce that Stef Schrader—our best Porsche fan and chief Puffalump enthusiast—is taking the checkered flag and leaving us. In those five years she was wet and miserable at Lemons and loved it. She crusaded for teal. She got the scoop on Nissan’s bizarre front-wheel-drive race car way before anyone else even came close. She bravely helped advance the conversation around head injuries in racing with her own story. But more than that, Stef truly embodied what it means to be Jalopnik—smart, curious, fearless, irreverent, offbeat, and sharp as a tack. As you may have read, the comical ineptitude of our new corporate overlords has forced cuts across our company, but our editorial union was able to negotiate voluntary buyouts for staffers instead of layoffs. You can read more about Stef’s decision to take a buyout here, but the great news for … [Read more...] about Stef Schrader Takes The Checkered Flag
