How bad will this winter be? How much snow will we get? Will it snow on Christmas? Long-range winter weather forecasts are always a challenge for meteorologists. “Seasonal forecasting is still a budding science,” WBZ’s Eric Fisher said in his forecast for the upcoming season. “It’s generally not going to be a slam dunk or something to take 100 percent literally,” he continued. “It’s an educated guess using the science we have available to us and looking at all the known variables involved.” Still, local and national meteorologists have issued their winter weather outlooks over the past few weeks. There isn’t widespread consensus on what this winter could have in store for New England, except that all forecasters are looking to El Niño’s probable impacts on the region’s weather the next few months. Here’s what forecasters are saying this winter may have in store for New England: The National Oceanic and … [Read more...] about Here’s what forecasters are saying about winter in New England this year

Temperatures as hot as DUBAI are being endured by tube commuters
It doesn't take a genius to realise standing like sardines along with hundreds of other commuters in a tightly packed tube is going to result in some sweaty work suits. As temperatures continue to climb and Brits make the most of the sweltering heatwave above ground, none of us really prepared for such stifling temperatures when travelling underground. New research has revealed just hot it's getting for passengers on the tube and the lines running to main west London stations including Hounslow and Ealing are becoming almost unbearable. In fact, the figures compare which tube line is the absolute hottest and points out which exotic country you could go abroad and find the same temperatures, reports Mirror Online . After reading these findings, you might be more inclined to wear that summer dress instead of the blazer. Researchers at Bolsover Cruise Club set out with thermometers across 20 of the most popular London Underground stations, then compared their findings to a day's … [Read more...] about Temperatures as hot as DUBAI are being endured by tube commuters

New sportswear line expected to be growth driver for Under Armour
It's a small step for Under Armour, which plans to add a sportswear line to its core athletic apparel offerings this fall. But it's also a giant leap into fashion, one the Baltimore-based athletic wear brand is taking with award-winning Belgian designer Tim Coppens.Known for performance-based gear for athletes, Under Armour hired Coppens to lead UAS, or Under Armour Sportswear, a line for "ambitious young professionals" to wear off the court and field and out of the gym. Coppens is a fashion industry star who designed for luxury brands and athletic wear companies before creating his own New York-based line.Analysts see the move as a logical evolution rather than a departure from the brand's core."The company was founded based on function over form … more about function and less about style, but along the way has been doing a very good job of growing the brand," said Jason Moser, an analyst with the Motley Fool's Million Dollar Portfolio. "There's more brand awareness for Under … [Read more...] about New sportswear line expected to be growth driver for Under Armour
