Earlier this year, the South Korean carmaker rolled out two new battery-powered cars — the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its sibling, the Kia EV6 — which promptly tore up the sales charts, passing the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt and every other electric vehicle on the market not made by Tesla. BIS Issues ‘Performance Standards’ For Two-Wheeler EVs
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the central standards setting agency under the Consumer Affairs Ministry of the Government of India, has formulated minimum performance standards required for electric vehicles in India. The performance standars have been formulated at a time when several incidents of fire in electric vehicles have raised safety concerns among consumers. Investigations ordered by the government are already underway into the recent spate of incidents of fire in EVS. According to the BIS, standards have been released for test specifications for lithium ion battery packs and systems. Multiple electric vehicles from across many major brands have been involved in incidents in the past few months.
