Listen to this article It’s also the youngest of the professional categories and, while Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock each race 24 times during a season the runs from February through much of November, Pro Stock Motorcycle (PSM) has 16 races, starting at the third contest of the year, the Gatornationals at Gainesville, Fla. in March of each year. That doesn’t mean PSM is any less competitive than its three brethren, nor does it mean there’s less combativeness between competitors, all thinking the other guy gets a better break. No, PSM is a tense and terse battleground - and for the Countdown to the Championship, it races at the same six venues allocated to the other pro classes. The players in Pro Stock Motorcycle There are four primary motorcycle manufacturers vested in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class: the long-lived Suzuki’s TL1000 and GSXR; Erik Buell’s XB12R, Victory’s Gunner and the Harley-Davidson V-Rod. Only two of these manufacturer’s motorcycles are … [Read more...] about Hines gunning for sixth Pro Stock Motorcycle title

Force recruits McCulloch for title fight
Listen to this article Force, who has also won two more Funny Car titles as a team owner – with Robert Hight in 2009 and Tony Pedregon in ’03 – has scored two wins this season but heads into the Countdown points reset with a 90pt deficit to Don Schumacher Racing’s Ron Capps, having finished the ‘regular’ season in eighth. Nearly 70 percent of Texas voters support legalizing weed
New polling data shows that Texans are generally pretty down for legalizing weed . A survey from the University of Houston's Hobby School of Public Affairs released this week found that 67 percent of Texans "support legislation that would make the recreational use of marijuana for any purpose legal for those age 21 and older." Attitudes towards legalizing recreational cannabis appear to vary by race: according to the study's findings, " 73 percent of Latino, 66 percent of Black and 62 percent of white Texans support this legislation," referring to proposed recreational weed legalization laws. Hobby School researchers also found that 82 percent of Texans "support legislation that would make the use of marijuana legal for a wide range of medical purposes with a prescription, with 56 percent strongly in support of medical marijuana." Texas also appears to be in favor of reducing criminal penalties for marijuana use and possession. "81 percent of Texans support legislation … [Read more...] about Nearly 70 percent of Texas voters support legalizing weed
Texas veterans vow to protect the state’s hemp market as one state lawmaker hopes to crack down
LEANDER — Texas veterans are working to protect the state’s hemp market — and push to expand the state’s medical marijuana program — at the state Capitol during this year’s legislative session. The veterans and their supporters say they need access to the hemp product known as delta-8 to treat issues such as chronic pain, traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder. Delta-8 is widely available throughout Texas and, like marijuana, can create a feeling of euphoria. “So many veterans are using these products and reporting good results,” said Dave Bass, an Army veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom who is diagnosed with PTSD. He’s also a longtime advocate in the legislative push for accessible, affordable THC products. Most states, including Texas, legalized hemp production following federal changes in 2018 that removed the plant from the list of illegal controlled substances. The hemp plant has a lower amount of tetrahydrocannabinol, or … [Read more...] about Texas veterans vow to protect the state’s hemp market as one state lawmaker hopes to crack down
Dan Haar: A flashy gala raises money — and speculation about a high-profile CT political career
HARTFORD -- In one way of looking at it, a gala fundraiser that drew business and political elites to honor a former elected official in a minor league baseball park on the coldest night of the year was just that, a gathering for a charity, like so many. On the other hand, the firepower at Dunkin’ Donuts Park Friday night to applaud Shawn T. Wooden, who served one, 4-year term as Connecticut’s state treasurer, would impress anyone familiar with politics, business and the civic power structure -- especially in the Black community -- in and beyond Connecticut. And that raised an obvious question. “Shawn Wooden was always committed to Hartford,” said U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the Brooklyn, N.Y. Democrat who’s minority leader in the House of Representatives and likely the future House speaker when and if the Dems win back that chamber. Wooden and Jeffries are pals from NYU law school. “He had so many opportunities to practice law across the country including at some of the … [Read more...] about Dan Haar: A flashy gala raises money — and speculation about a high-profile CT political career
Red Bull duo say Ricciardo F1 sim input will be a boost
Listen to this article Ricciardo made his first official reappearance as a Red Bull employee at the team's 2023 livery launch event in New York last Friday, where it also announced an impending engine partnership with Ford. He confirmed he is set to complete a series of tyre tests for Red Bull "in the middle of the year" but said "mainly the sim work is the driving stuff for now". Red Bull has no plans for Ricciardo to appear in any 2023 practice sessions at the events he is scheduled to attend this season, which was estimated late in 2022 to be around half of the 23-race calendar. The first of those events is set to be Ricciardo's home race in Australia, with his efforts in Red Bull's simulator during the preceding Bahrain and Saudi Arabian weekends predicted to be valuable by his teammates. Verstappen, who raced alongside Ricciardo at Red Bull between 2016 and 2018, said the Australian has "always been a professional and a super nice guy to work with, as well as a … [Read more...] about Red Bull duo say Ricciardo F1 sim input will be a boost

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 20 A Baton Rouge couple has created a mobile app to help crawfish fans get their next fix, complete with locations and pricing. Laney and Ryan King devised The Crawfish App in January 2013 after having trouble figuring out where to get crawfish in the Baton Rouge area. They simply wanted an app that could show them who was serving crawfish and knew others were probably looking for something similar. OUCH: Casian Crawfish's Carolina Reaper crawfish challenge is only for the strong and crazy brave The app, released in February 2017, is constantly being updated, with most every crawfish place in Houston in their database. The number crawfish vendors on the app continues to grow. “It was basically out of frustration and the love of Louisiana culture that we created it,” Laney … [Read more...] about Need to find your next crawfish feast? Elite seeks rapid and radical performance boost
Listen to this article The team’s two-time and reigning Pro Stock champion Erica Enders-Stevens had far and away the car to beat for the past couple of seasons and that’s all changed this year. Elite switched from Chevrolet to Dodge cars and engines for the 2016 season. Then part-time teammate from 2015, five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., came onboard full-time. And then the NHRA changed the rules… Instead of using the Mopar engine from 2015, Elite – along with every other team in the Pro Stock category – was forced to change from carbureted to fuel injected engines. This edict was handed down in late July of 2015, giving teams little more than six months to prepare. In addition, the teams went from having no set rpm limit to having to keep their engines at 10,500 rpm or lower. Lacking carburetors, the cars had a different look to them, losing the bulbous noses that were part and parcel of Pro Stock for so long. An amended wheelie-bar size was also … [Read more...] about Elite seeks rapid and radical performance boost
