Listen to this article The Texas-based team had not competed in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona, although this trio of drivers did take GTE Pro victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours this year, driving a works AF Corse Ferrari 488. However, Risi Competizione – which now has five wins in this event – proved an immediate threat to the GT Le Mans class full-timers at Road Atlanta this year, fast in all practice sessions and ultimately taking pole thanks to a spectacular effort from Calado. Even when the Ford GTs led the middle portion of the race, the Ferrari remained close, and had the pace to remain unthreatened by the lead BMW, lead Corvette and the Porsche 911s, even though they would all briefly cycle into the top three by trying different strategies. As the ambient and track temperatures started to cool in the evening, the Ferrari started to look stronger once more and Pier Guidi passed Richard Westbrook’s Ford for the … [Read more...] about Pier Guidi: Petit win “will stay in my heart for a long time”

Homeless mom left her dog with note, ‘please love me.’ A shelter reunited them.
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Lilo, a 4-year-old German shepherd-Great Pyrenees mix, was found wandering the streets of Chattanooga, Tenn., alone. All she had with her was a leash and collar - which had a heartbreaking handwritten note attached to it. "Please keep my name. My name is Lilo," the note read. "Please love me. My mom can't keep me and is homeless with 2 kids. She tried her best but can't get help. I cost too much for her." "She really loves me and I'm a great dog and love to be loved on," the note continued. "Please don't abuse me." Lilo was found by a local resident on Jan. 20 and taken to McKamey Animal Center. When she first arrived, "she was really scared," said Lauren Mann, the director of advancement at the shelter. "We all cried reading the note," Mann said. "We see a lot of sad stuff every single day, but it just really hit us all. The last line is gut-wrenching." Staff at the shelter … [Read more...] about Homeless mom left her dog with note, ‘please love me.’ A shelter reunited them.
Car buyers love EVs but hate the prices. That’s bad for green-energy hopes.
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 6 At Washington's annual auto show this past week, Shawn Strayhorne and his father made a beeline for Ford's F-150 Lightning. Peering into the electric pickup's front trunk - a cavernous storage space that doubles as a cooler, located where the gas-guzzling engine used to be - they declared themselves impressed. But Strayhorne said he wasn't ready to be "an early adopter" of a vehicle that ranges from $56,000 to $100,000. "In the future, this will go down in price. Right now it's a little too difficult and expensive to buy," he said. Sporting an Air Force veteran cap, his father, Ronald Strayhorne Sr., said it was best to wait until the truck has a longer track record. "Let others do the tryout," he said. Their wait-and-see approach, shared by many at the show, could undermine a centerpiece of the Biden administration's green-energy agenda: a push to have plug-in … [Read more...] about Car buyers love EVs but hate the prices. Why HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ rewrote the love story of Bill and Frank
A fortified town in Massachusetts is surrounded with traps, mines and a yards-long electric fence. Behind all these defenses lives a 40-something man named Bill. He's been ready for an apocalypse long before anyone else, filling bunkers with food and armories with powerful weapons. But even as one of the most prepared for the world's end, there's one thing he didn't account for: falling in love. In "Long, Long Time," the latest episode of HBO's "The Last of Us," we enter Bill's never-before-seen romantic life. Fans of the game may notice some big deviations from the source material, as characters are given reimagined lives. In the game, we meet Bill only briefly, as protagonists Joel and Ellie pass through his town in hopes of scrounging together a working vehicle for their journey across a post-apocalyptic America. We discover Bill wasn't always solo - his romantic partner, Frank, died by suicide after becoming infected. The game doesn't linger on these details long, with only … [Read more...] about Why HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ rewrote the love story of Bill and Frank
‘The Last of Us’ recap: A kinder, more loving tale for Bill and Frank
The third episode of HBO's "The Last of Us" might be one of the show's finest hours. Most of it largely ignores protagonists Joel and Ellie to focus on the tale of Bill and Frank, minor characters in the game whose story here is transformed in unexpected, kinder ways. In the game, Frank and Bill are two older gay men whose story ended with bitter suicide, leaving a lonely Bill to stew in his resentment and regret. Episode 3 begins with Joel and Ellie in the wake of Tess's sacrifice to save them both. We start 10 miles west of Boston, and we can sense Joel's acrimony toward Ellie. Bella Ramsey's Ellie, in a strong display of emotional intelligence, senses this and preemptively lectures Joel: "You made a choice, so don't blame me for something that isn't my fault." Joel, with Pedro Pascal's sunken face, nods back knowingly. You almost get that Joel respects Ellie for her read on him, and her reasoning. This is shown immediately as the pair walk along and Joel lets down his guard a … [Read more...] about ‘The Last of Us’ recap: A kinder, more loving tale for Bill and Frank
‘The Last of Us’ tells a new but familiar queer love story
(Spoilers for episode 3 of HBO's "The Last of Us," as well as both video games and the "Left Behind" DLC.) --- Much of the focus on HBO's interpretation of "The Last of Us" has been on its fidelity to the games - how faithfully it re-creates the original's story and scenes, and what it chooses to change. While episode 2 gave us a very different death for Tess, episode 3 is an even bigger departure, telling a whole new story about side character Bill and his partner Frank. Through this change, the episode tells a new, more hopeful story about the zombie apocalypse. At the same time, it tells a complex but also stereotypical story about the lives and deaths available to the queer people in its world. In the video game of "The Last of Us," Joel and Ellie meet Bill, a lone survivor who is distrustful and unpleasant. He makes reference to a "partner" and seems to suggest he kicked that person out, finding it better to be on his own. After fighting through infected in search of a … [Read more...] about ‘The Last of Us’ tells a new but familiar queer love story

The story behind ‘MILF Manor,’ the reality show that seems like a fever dream
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 On a gorgeous winter day last year in Mexico, the sun was shining, the sea was sparkling, and a group of mothers and their sons stood around a bulletin board covered in anonymously-written notes and tried to guess each other's sexual secrets. Ricky, 26, spotted one piece of paper where someone confessed they once had sex in a mall elevator after a late-night movie. "I think that might be my mom," Ricky said. "She's kind of kinky like that." Pola, 48, read another note out loud: "I started dating a couple of women but they were both just a 'hit and quit' ... I never called them again." She pondered those words for a few seconds - the hitting, the quitting - then came to a realization: "That's Jose!" The purpose of the exercise was to stump one another; if a mother could not guess her son's secret (and vice versa), then the son would win a romantic date. No, not with his mom. With … [Read more...] about The story behind ‘MILF Manor,’ the reality show that seems like a fever dream
