It’s been over 10 years since the Aston Martin DBS engine note blew me away in the opening car chase to 2008's Quantum of Solace and I’ve never forgotten it, but the new Bond movie is reportedly going to be much different, with Bond driving the upcoming electric Aston Martin Rapide. Starting with the DB5 in 1964's Goldfinger, Bond has had a very long, off-and-on working relationship with Aston Martin. Daniel Craig’s portrayal of the character has driven the DB5, DBS, and the DB10, which previewed the eventual production version of the new Vantage. British tabloid The Sun now reports that Bond won’t be driving any of the new noisy Aston Martins, though. Here’s a snip from the report: Director Cary Joji Fukunaga, 41, wants star Daniel Craig, 51, to be seen behind the wheel of a limited edition Aston Martin. The £250,000 Rapide E is the Brit motor manufacturer’s first electric vehicle and only 155 are being built. The potential offering would mark a turnaround for the once-troubled company, which has filed for bankruptcy seven times over its century-long history and passed from owner to owner, including the likes of Ford Motor. A stock sale would also plant Aston Martin’s flag in the markets as an independent, publicly traded British carmaker as its home country heads toward divorce from the European Union. The offering plans signal a belief that even after Brexit, Aston Martin’s luxury sports cars and sedans would appeal to deep-pocketed auto buyers worldwide. In a regulatory filing, the … [Read more...] about Aston Martin, James Bond’s Carmaker of Choice, Files for an I.P.O.
With Daniel Craig not returning as James Bond at least until 2019, we definitely need somebody to fill his shoes as a British government super spy. That somebody, for better or worse, is Rowan Atkinson, aka Johnny English. This marks the third time Atkinson steps into the shoes of the goofy, yet irrationally confident English, the first time being in 2003, followed by a sequel in 2011. The third movie is called ‘Johnny English Strikes Again’ and according to its IMDb page, it will hit theaters on October 12th, 2018. For ‘Strikes Back’, Atkinson will be driving a classic Aston Martin V8, equipped with missiles (and who knows what else). This car definitely makes the character feel more Bond-like, seen as how in his previous Johnny English film, Atkinson drove a bespoke V16 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe. Atkinson’s third Johnny English movie will also feature former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), as well as Emma Thompson (in a supporting role), … [Read more...] about Johnny English Is Back With A Classic Aston Martin V8
Will the Lagonda Vision Concept finally capture auto enthusiasts’ imagination? Aston Martin has had the Lagonda brand tucked into its back pocket for over a century now. However, Aston Martin has rarely used the Lagonda brand, and when it has, the results have generally been underwhelming. The Lagonda Vision Concept, however, hints at a new and exciting direction: electric sedans. Aston Martin is primarily known for luxury hypercars and is a mainstay in James Bond films. Lagonda has generally focused on the more “family-friendly” ultra luxury sedan market. Yes, Lagonda automobiles still cost a pretty penny and perform well on the road, but they wouldn’t be your first choice for high-speed espionage. That is, unless you needed to buckle in a kid’s car seat or bring the family along for the ride. Lagonda might be making a come back if the Vision Concept is a hint of intent. The Vision Concept is visually striking, to say the least. The Lagonda Vision … [Read more...] about Aston Martin Lagonda Vision Concept Revealed
