Yes, we heard you. The new generation of the Civic isn't for everyone. Truth be told, the new generation Honda Civic is receiving some serious backlash in terms of its exterior styling. The understatement has practically turned the previously boy-racer-type sedan into a mature-looking smaller brother of the Honda Accord . It's like the nameplate is all grown-up now ready to suit up for the corporate world. While some people (like myself) aren't entirely offended by this move, we've seen others who have been bashing the automaker for this design direction. So much so that unofficial requests for redesign have been thrown around – and TheSketchMonkey on YouTube has answered the call. Albuquerque continued his pace-setting form in the opening 90-minute session aboard the United Oreca 07, setting a 2m04.083s around the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. That was a couple of tenths up on his best lap in the official pre-season Prologue test at Spa at the beginning of this week in which he topped the times in two of the four sessions. The fastest of the cars running in the Hypercar class was the grandfathered Alpine A480 LMP1 car, in which Matthieu Vaxiviere posted a 2m04.335s lap to end up second in the overall classification. The two Toyota Le Mans Hypercars took seventh and 10th in the times in amongst the LMP2 pack. Quickest of the Toyota GR010 Hybrids was the #7 entry in the hands of Mike Conway. His 2m04.574s was marginally faster than Sebastien Buemi had managed in the sister car when he went fastest during a qualifying run in the closing session of the Prologue on Tuesday afternoon. Kazuki Nakajima was four tenths in arrears of Conway on a … [Read more...] about Spa WEC: United Autosports LMP2 fastest in first practice
Andre Negrao set the fastest time of the 90-minute session on Friday morning at the wheel of the Signatech-run Alpine A480 of 2m03.396s, around seven tenths up on Thursday's fastest time. The first part of the session was led by Toyota thanks to Brendon Hartley's time of 2m03.431s in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, more than a second faster than the best of the Japanese marque's all-new Hypercars had managed in FP1. That was eclipsed by Negrao by only 0.035s just shy of the 40-minute mark, with no further changes to the top of the leaderboard for the remainder of the session. United Autosports once again led the LMP2 class after setting the fastest time overall in FP1, but Filipe Albuquerque's fastest time of 2m03.733s in the team's Oreca 07 was more than three tenths off the outright pace. The pair traded fastest times throughout the opening practice session, while Lewis Hamilton finished fifth after complaining of a balance problem early on and then failing to string a flying lap together on the softer tyres in the closing stages. When the session got underway, Bottas was first to take the track, followed by Sergio Perez, who was initially running a large aero rake at the rear of his Red Bull. Bottas therefore set the early benchmark at 1m23.778s on the hard tyres, which most of the field used for the first half of the 60-minute session. The smooth, low-grip surface meant the drivers were finding time the longer their runs went on, with Bottas soon lowering the fastest time to a 1m22.938s. Hamilton then jumped ahead with a 1m22.772s, also on the hard rubber, but was soon back in the pits complaining that the balance on his W12 was "undriveable" and that Mercedes had to make some "serious changes".
