Jalopnik Reviews All of our test drives in one convenient place. The 2019 BMW X7 xDrive50i is not for driving enthusiasts, but it is actually pretty great to drive. This 5,400-pound SUV is as sybaritic as it is futuristic with toys like LED mood lighting in the sunroof, heated third-row seats, an intuitive head-up display and almost comically effortless acceleration. (Full Disclosure: BMW flew me out to Las Vegas and put me up in the Four Seasons so I could drive a 2019 BMW X7 xDrive50i back home to Los Angeles via Death Valley. The hotel lobby coffee was six bucks. I billed it to the room.) Don’t bother trying to compare this to an M3, from the current era or any prior. BMW has been about more than just lean performance machines since forever. (The whole era of the New Class and the 3 Series only goes back to the ‘60s and ‘70s). The X7 is a logical evolution of the other thing this brand has been doing: luxury cars on the cutting edge of technology. But even … [Read more...] about The 2019 BMW X7 Isn’t the Anti-BMW You Think It Is

Amazon is establishing an Alexa beachhead in the connected car world, challenging Apple and Google, both of which offer phone apps for remote services and communicating commands to your car, such as lock and unlock, start the engine and turn on the climate control. Related: Toyota Adds Amazon Alexa, Android Auto Adds Google Assistant Those other tech giants had a head start, but Amazon is rapidly catching up with available Alexa connected car "skills" (Alexa-speak for apps) from the automakers that let you tell the car what to do via Amazon's Echo and other Alexa voice-controlled devices. Apple and Google also have infiltrated the dashboard screen in the car with smartphone-based Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Amazon also has a toe in the water there with, for example, the new Ford+Alexa and Lincoln+Alexa systems. They combine an app on your phone with Ford's Sync AppLink to provide access to Alexa voice capabilities and skills in the … [Read more...] about Hey, Alexa! The new model switches to a new platform: the Toyota New Global Architecture platform, which enabled the automaker to change a few key dimensions. But the most obvious surprise will be how it looks — almost exactly like the FT-AC concept that Toyota showed at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 306 horsepower Honda Civic Type R was one of the most eagerly anticipated new cars in years. It’s billed as the ultimate front-wheel-drive track weapon, but is it really? This team is building a Type R into a race car to find out. Team HMA—for Honda Manufacturing of Alabama—is the newer, wackier sister-team to the Ohio-based Honda of America Racing Team (or HART, for short). While HART may be tackling some of America’s most legendary endurance races this year in an Acura NSX GT3, Team HMA’s projects are more accessible to the average hoon. HMA built a race car out of a Honda Odyssey minivan, raced a Honda Accord coupe in Pirelli World Challenge, and ran One Lap of America in an Acura MDX crossover. Other past racing projects include an Accord sedan and a Honda Pilot. It’s the kind of nutty stuff we love to see: cars made for something else completely showing up on a race track anyway. Now, they’ve shifted their attention to something a … [Read more...] about This Volunteer Honda Team Is Making The Killer Civic Type R You Could Build Yourself
