At 14.00 hrs local time, His Highness Sheikh Juma al Maktoum waved the national flag of the United Arab Emirates to send off the field of 89 cars for this year’s tenth running of the Hankook 24H DUBAI. After some incidents in yesterday’s practice and qualifying sessions, certain cars were damaged beyond repair and were sidelined from the race, but the number of 89 cars taking the start still marks a record field for the first international endurance race of the new calendar year. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, vice-president of the FIA and president of the Automobile and Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE) also attended the start of the race. Team Black Falcon will start its 2015 motorsport chapter by lining up four cars on the Dubai 24 Hours grid at the Dubai Autodrome this coming weekend. The team is aiming for an outright victory with its two Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 racecars, both of which will face very tough competition in the premier A6 category. Driving the black and red Abu Dhabi Racing Black Falcon Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 this weekend will be Bernd Schneider, Jeroen Bleekemolen, Khaled Al Qubaisi and Andreas Simonsen. FIA GT and multiple DTM champion Schneider ended a low-profile 2014 on a high, completing the Gulf 12 Hours in 2nd place overall, alongside his Black Falcon teammates Jeroen Bleekemolen, who finished runner-up in the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series, and Khaled Al Qubaisi, who finished third in the 2014 World Endurance Championship GTE-Am class.
