2019 Acura RDX A-Spec; Cars.com photos by Christian Lantry The prototype version of the 2019 Acura RDX first appeared in Detroit earlier this year, but here at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, Acura was finally ready to show off three versions of the production RDX. No more caveats attached: What you see here is what the 2019 RDX will look like when it hits the road. Related: More 2018 New York Auto Show Coverage The only notable styling changes are larger side mirrors to meet safety standards, different paint and more conventional wheels. The same "True Touchpad Interface" and 10.2-inch display that I enjoyed on the prototype thankfully made it through into the production vehicle unchanged. Acura also introduced a few new elements of the RDX that weren't on the prototype, starting with an A-Spec trim level that has more-aggressive styling. A-Spec models add Shark Gray 20-inch alloy wheels, gloss-black accents and a unique lower front fascia to spruce up the exterior. … [Read more...] about 2019 Acura RDX Production Models Finally Arrive, and Here They Are
Acura’s reputation, at least as of late, has been that of a brand that’s lost its way. With the exception of the flagship NSX, the current lineup is, generally speaking, underwhelming. The 2019 Acura RDX could be the first step back in the right direction for the brand, or it could be a dud. At a glance, it seems that Acura has the right idea, even if it expresses the message in eye-roll-worthy marketing gobbledygook. Twist is up over the previous model by 28 lb-ft, thanks to a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection four-cylinder. Gone is the previous-gen model’s 3.5-liter V6. The compact crossover’s power output now stands at 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. That all gets to ground via a 10-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, as well as Acura’s “super handling all-wheel drive” system. This version of SH-AWD sends 70 percent of the torque to the rear wheels and up to 100 percent to either … [Read more...] about 2019 Acura RDX – Will It Get the Brand Back on Track?
Acura has never risen to the lofty heights of its European rivals. Judging by the looks of the 2019 RDX, Acura might soon be considered with the best. The 2019 RDX marks some important changes versus the last model and for the Acura brand. Like its German rivals, power comes from a 2.0-liter turbo-4. It replaces the 3.5-liter V-6 and spins out 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This dual-overhead-cam engine is a variant of the world beater found in the Civic Type R, and Acura says low-rpm torque improves by 40 percent. Power is sent through a new 10-speed automatic transmission with a 62 percent wider range of gear ratios. READ MORE: 2019 Acura RDX adds to brand's SUV momentum Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive makes its return to the RDX. The system can send up to 70 percent of the torque to the rear, all of which can go to the outside rear wheel to help this crossover rotate through corners--maybe even like a sport sedan. Front-wheel drive should be offered as well. … [Read more...] about 2019 Acura RDX video preview
Acura gave us a nice surprise at this year’s New York Auto Show with the debut of their new sporty SUV. In a world where all cars are starting to look the same, the 2019 Acura RDX comes with refreshingly unique looks. But the good news is, the uniqueness has not been achieved at the cost of beauty. In short then, 2019 Acura RDX is one of the best looking cars we’ve ever seen in this class. The main features contributing to this include the sharp lines of the body that give the whole thing a dynamic look, the bejeweled headlights, Diamond Pentagon Grille, NSX-inspired air intakes, and the low roof. But if you still feel this might not be sporty enough, there is also a A-Spec trim level featuring larger wheels, gloss black accents and unique interior treatment including an available two-tone red and black interior. 2019 Acura RDX is sort of like a SUV version of the NSX sports car. Powering the car is a 2.0-liter turbo VTEC engine … [Read more...] about 2019 Acura RDX Is Handsome, Dynamic, High-Tech
2019 Acura RDX Prototype One of the highlights of the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month was the introduction of the 2019 Acura RDX Prototype (you can read our report on that introduction here). At the 2018 Chicago Auto Show, we had the opportunity to get an up-close look around and inside the RDX Prototype. 2018 Detroit Auto Show: 2019 Acura RDX Prototype It’s no secret that this show-stand special is essentially a slightly modified version of the soon-to-be-unveiled production version of the 2019 Acura RDX. Other than the flashy candy-red paint, upsized wheels, super-slim rearview mirrors, and perhaps some front and rear fasciae and bodyside-sill details, this is what the production 2019 RDX will look like. The 2019 RDX is the first production Acura to be designed from the ground up under the “Precision Crafted Performance” motif that was introduced on the Acura Precision Concept of 2016.
