The Acura RDX got a redesign for the 2019 model year, and our readers gave our critique of the compact SUV a place among the top five most-read reviews of the week. Cars.com reviewer Jennifer Geiger had praise for nearly every aspect of the overhauled RDX, from its out-there exterior styling to its luxurious interior appointments and premium features. Related: More Expert Car Reviews One thing, however, gave Geiger pause: the brand's new multimedia system, called True Touchpad Interface. A touchpad controls a host of features on the 10.2-inch multimedia screen, but rather than clicking or dragging, areas on the touchpad are mapped to areas on the screen, so a tap on the touchpad is like a tap on a touchscreen. Makes sense, right? "Like a fifth-grader's volcano that erupts too soon at a science fair, the system is an experiment gone wrong," according to Geiger. What should be simple tasks took multiple attempts and a lot of trial and error to accomplish — neither of which … [Read more...] about Top 5 Reviews and Videos of the Week: 2019 Acura RDX Joins the Party

We may not have loved the 2019 Acura RDX's multimedia system one bit, but on many other points, the Honda luxury brand's smallest SUV got a makeover for the model year that helps it stand out. From a comfortable interior to a refined powertrain and a honed exterior, the RDX has been properly prepped to compete with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. But how much will it cost you fuel-wise? Related: 2019 Acura RDX Review: Major Multimedia Misfire Given that the average prices of regular and premium gasoline were virtually unchanged from a week ago early Thursday per AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report, you'd be paying roughly the same. The 2019 RDX, with a switch to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine from a naturally aspirated V-6, still takes premium fuel. Here are some sample payments you'd be making at the pump: At the national average for premium of $3.46, filling the RDX's 17.1-gallon tank would cost you $59.17. In Oklahoma, where premium fuel is always cheap … [Read more...] about How Much Does It Cost to Fill Up a 2019 Acura RDX?
Mark Phelan Detroit Free Press Published 1:14 p.m. UTC Jun 27, 2018 Quick and sleek, the ★★★ 2019 Acura RDX SUV is a major step forward for Honda’s long-suffering luxury brand. The RDX parlays a new platform and a new design theme into a good-looking, high-value SUV that gives Acura its first serious player in a white-hot market segment. The new RDX is bigger, more sophisticated and more comfortable than Acura’s previous small five-passenger SUV. The 2019 model's switch to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 10-speed transmission is a big improvement from the old model’s sleepy V6 and six-speed. Disappointingly, though, the change brought no increase in fuel economy. The interior design and materials set a new standard for Acura, with plenty of room, low-gloss wood and real metal trim. The jury’s still out on a new controller that relies on a touch pad for navigation and other features, though. Acura reinvents one of its best sellers. We're back this week with another crossover. The outgoing RDX was already sneaky-good. While pundits spend plenty of time talking about the relative success (or lack thereof) of Acura's sedans, Honda's premium subsidiary has become quietly dominant in the crossover space. The only two luxury CUVs to outsell RDX last year were Audi Q5 and Lexus NX. Even if you apply the "Sierra rule" to BMW and lump the X3 and X4 volumes together, it's still way behind. This is a car that probably isn't really on your radar, but it's clearly on many others'. Like its larger sibling, the MDX, the RDX hits the entry-level-luxury sweet spot buyers are looking for in terms of value and premium content. So, the next time you rhetorically question Acura's existence, remember this: The company's crossovers print a startling amount of money for Honda. ReDuXSo, what's new? Well, everything. Not only is RDX new from the ground up, it's also riding on what for the … [Read more...] about First drive: 2019 Acura RDX [Review]
