Who is the top high school basketball player in the Houston area? We'll have an official answer in a couple months, but the picture has started to become a bit more clear. The 25 candidates for the 2023 Guy V. Lewis Award, which honors the boys basketball player of the year in the Greater Houston Area, were unveiled Tuesday afternoon. Student-athletes from Harris County and immediately adjacent counties are eligible for consideration. This year's finalists will be announced in March, with the winner set to be honored at an award reception on March 29. Below is the full list of candidates for the 2023 Guy V. The Greater Houston Basketball Committee (GHBC) announced today the winner of the 2016 Guy V Lewis Award for the Great Houston Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year is De’Aaron Fox of Cy Lakes High School. The event honored the 10 finalists for the 2016 Guy V. Lewis Award which is given annually to the Boys High School Player of the Year in the Greater Houston area. This is the fifth year that this unique award to be given out.  The previous winners include Rasheed Sulaimon of Strake Jesuit in 2012, the 2013 winner was Aaron Harrison who played at Kentucky, Justise Winslow, who won a national championship at Duke and plays for the Miami Heat, and Galen Robinson Jr., now playing at Houston. When action resumed Tom Blomqvist drove the polesitting Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06 to the top of the times with a 1min35.688sec run, a few hundredths ahead of Renger van der Zande’s #01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac V-LMDh, and Albuquerque’s Wayne Taylor Racing Acura.
