It was announced last week that, as of July 1, Allison will hold a newly-created position of chief technical officer, a change that some interpreted as a possible first step to him eventually being the overall head of the team. Wolff retains the team principal job for the foreseeable future, having explored his options over the past year. The Austrian has made it clear that he will eventually move aside, but he stressed that the job won't go to Allison. "I would say if you look at things, he would absolutely be capable to be the team principal," Wolff said of Allison. "And also the people here, there's so much respect [for him] within the organisation. "But the thing is very easy. He said, 'Never, ever I would do this. Team principal requires different skills.' And so he said, 'No, thank you. No'. "James and I speak multiple times every single day. And we're totally coordinated on the strategic direction of Mercedes Motorsport, and Mercedes Grand Prix. So much earlier … [Read more...] about Allison doesn’t want Mercedes F1 team boss role – Wolff

Norris had already been rapid with a third-fastest time in Q1 and second place in Q2 and looked set to record his best ever qualifying result in a tightly contested Q3 shootout. The Briton set a time which would have been good for third on the grid, behind polesitter Lewis Hamilton while splitting the Red Bulls of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen, but saw his fastest laptime deleted due exceeding the track limits at Imola's Turn 9. Instead, Norris ended up seventh on the grid, behind teammate Daniel Ricciardo, courtesy of his second-best laptime which was four tenths off the frontrunners. Even though his track limits violation appeared extremely marginal Norris took the full blame for losing his best time, admitting he "effed it all up". "Yeah, pretty disappointed, pretty annoyed with myself," Norris told Sky Sports F1. "I think it was a very good day until then, the team did an awesome job. You know, the car really came alive in qualifying. "We made a lot of … [Read more...] about Norris admits he “effed it all up” in Imola qualifying
The luxobarge looks majestic even when hiding under a car cover. We’ve been spying on the new Bentley Flying Spur since October 2016 , back when test mules were carrying Porsche Panamera bodies. Fast forward to present day, we still haven’t seen Crewe’s fullsize luxury sedan in full, but prototypes are being caught with less and less camouflage with each new batch of spy shots. Revealed: 2020 Bentley Flying Spur Debuts As W12 Luxobarge With 626 HP This particular Flying Spur is a bit more interesting than the others since it’s the electrified version. That’s right – the new generation will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain joining the familiar V8 and W12 versions of the luxobarge. The prototype was caught charging its battery pack, which will be a part of a PHEV system likely inherited from the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. It won’t be the exact same setup as the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid since the opulent SUV uses a slightly bigger 3.0-liter unit whereas … [Read more...] about Bentley Flying Spur PHEV Caught Recharging Its Battery
What is going on here? What car would you take to the Nürburgring for a track day? For this Mercedes-Benz test driver, it appears they love spending a day at the Ring piloting a Maybach S-Class . Why is Mercedes-Benz testing out an ultra-luxury sedan around the Nürburgring even though owners will never take their chauffer-friendly luxury barges to a track? We have a few theories. The upcoming Maybach S-Class was recently teased with the upcoming celebration of 100 years of Maybach. This unique ultra-long Maybach S-Class code-named the Z223 will feature a rarity in modern car manufacturing, a true V12 engine. So why take a Maybach S-Class to the Nürburgring? We believe they’re testing out their new V12 engine that needs to handle extreme conditions. With the V12 engine absent from most of the Mercedes-Benz lineup their choices for test cars are limited, which is why a long-wheelbase Maybach S-Class is lapping the Nürburgring with some frequency. More Mercedes-Benz … [Read more...] about Why Is Mercedes Still Testing The Maybach S-Class At The ‘Ring?
Thankfully nobody was seriously injured. Recent security camera footage from a gas station in Whitaker, PA, shows a car careening for the gas station at a high rate of speed. The owner of the Gulf Oil location, Bob Ackerman, says that it’s unfortunately not the first time that this has happened. It all started on April 15, 2015, when a driver took out a traffic signal and landed on two parked cars. The latest instance happens to be the ninth accident at this location in the last six years, taking place only 12 days after another nearly identical crash. Thankfully, nobody has been seriously injured from these incidents, but Ackerman is worried that could change. While the speed limit on the bridge is just 25 miles … [Read more...] about Watch Out Of Control Motorist Crash Into Gas Station Parking Lot
