Mystics’ Alysha Clark returns to Seattle, the city that launched her career
SEATTLE - There was a line waiting for Alysha Clark as the Mystics finished their shoot-around Thursday morning at Climate Pledge Arena. The Seattle Storm walked onto the court for its session and many Storm players - Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd, among others - made a beeline to hug their former teammate. Clark was a key part of a Seattle team that won a pair of WNBA titles, and Thursday marked her first time in the arena wearing a visitor's jersey after signing with the Mystics before the 2021 season. The last game she played for Seattle was the title-clinching Game 3 against the Las Vegas Aces in 2020, a season when she was a unanimous selection to the WNBA's All-Defensive first team. M-Sport: Permanent WRC cockpit heat solution shouldn’t be rushed
Listen to this article Increased cockpit temperatures in the new-for-2022 hybrid cars have prompted the FIA and teams to react to address the issue that emerged during Rally Portugal in May. Conditions inside Rally1 cars have proven far hotter compared to the previous generation WRC car, courtesy of a key change in vehicle design that has resulted in the exhaust moving from a central position to the right side of the cockpit near to where the co-driver sits. As a result, temperatures have increased, with some drivers describing the conditions as unsafe in Portugal. This led to a swift reaction from the FIA, which drew up a list of quick modifications teams could make to their cars to help address the situation at Rally Sardinia last month, where ambient temperatures reached 40 degrees. Teams were permitted to redesign roof vents, add ventilation holes and fit reflective film to windows and roofs to reflect the heat away from the cabin, while the use of ceramic coatings … [Read more...] about M-Sport: Permanent WRC cockpit heat solution shouldn’t be rushed
VW CEO confirms Audi, Porsche F1 entries for 2026
Volkswagen’s chief executive, Herbert Diess, has confirmed Audi and Porsche will enter Formula 1 in 2026. Diess indicated Porsche’s plans were a little more certain at this early stage – which may well mean them linking up with Red Bull for an engine programme. Since last summer when they both became involved in talks over F1’s next generation of engines from 2026, Audi and Porsche, who are both part of the Volkswagen group, have been increasingly linked with joining the grid. Unofficial confirmation occurred in early April, as reported by Reuters , who are now attributing the official word to chief executive Diess in a YouTube video. There were not, however, any specific details from the 63-year-old Munich-born Austrian national, although Reuters reported that Porsche “intends to establish a long-term partnership with Red Bull starting in several years’ time”, which will essentially mean 2026. Reuters are also sticking to their story from March that Audi have put a bid … [Read more...] about VW CEO confirms Audi, Porsche F1 entries for 2026
Formula 1 aims for net-carbon footprint by 2030
Formula 1 has announced plans to have all Grands Prix to use sustainable products by 2025 and to have a net-zero carbon footprint by 2030. The globe-travelling motor sport, which next season will feature a record 22 races, and with proposals to have 25 per year at some stage in the next decade, naturally has a significant impact when it comes to carbon emissions. But following a 12-month project, F1 – in conjunction with governing body, the FIA, the teams, promoters and other stakeholders – is convinced it can deliver on its stated aims over the coming years. The initiative will not only cover the F1 cars and on-track activity, with the key to the strategy being a net-zero carbon hybrid power unit, but also the rest of the operations as a sport, such as logistics and travel, with additional plans for offices, facilities and factories to be 100 per cent powered by renewable energy sources. Chase Carey, chairman and chief executive of Formula 1, said: “Few people know that the … [Read more...] about Formula 1 aims for net-carbon footprint by 2030
Bruni not expecting Porsche LMDh seat, could look elsewhere
Listen to this article Bruni joined Porsche’s factory stable in 2018 after a successful stint with Ferrari that yielded three class wins at the Le Mans 24 Hours and consecutive GTE Pro titles in 2013-14. Since then, the Italian driver has become a key member of Porsche’s WEC effort, most recently helping the German manufacturer score its first class win at La Sarthe in four years this month along with Richard Lietz and Frederic Makowiecki. However, while Porsche has picked Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen from its GTE Pro team to drive the 963 LMDh car next year, Bruni was absent from last weekend’s list of eight drivers signed for its factory campaigns in WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Penske in 2023. Two more drivers are expected to be announced at a later stage as Porsche continues testing the successor to the all-conquering 919 Hybrid, but Bruni has all but ruled out having any role in the marque’s first top-line sportscar effort … [Read more...] about Bruni not expecting Porsche LMDh seat, could look elsewhere
