Helmut Marko has refuted suggestions that Ferrari have the faster car, but that doesn’t mean he believes Red Bull’s is ahead. Although Red Bull are dominating this year’s championship standings, well ahead of Ferrari on both logs, the numbers don’t tell the full story. Ferrari’s F1-75, especially in the hands of Charles Leclerc, has often been the pace-setter with the Monégasque taking seven pole positions. But when it comes to Sundays, that’s when it goes wrong for Ferrari which has allowed Red Bull to seize the advantage time and again, Max Verstappen up to eight wins for the season with Sergio Perez on one. Three of Verstappen’s wins, Spain, Baku and France, came after Leclerc retired while running P1 while another, Hungary, saw him take advantage after Ferrari dropped the ball with Leclerc’s strategy. But while it is fair to say that Red Bull have benefitted from Ferrari’s reliability issues and strategy blunders , Marko believes there is very little between … [Read more...] about Helmut Marko disagrees with claim Ferrari are faster than Red Bull

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of trying to encourage extended hostilities in Ukraine as part of what he described Tuesday as Washington's alleged efforts to maintain its global hegemony. Addressing a security conference attended by military officials from Africa,, Asia and Latin America, Putin reaffirmed his long-held claim that he sent troops into Ukraine in response to Washington turning the country into an “anti-Russia” bulwark. “They need conflicts to retain their hegemony,” Putin charged. “That’s why they have turned the Ukrainian people into cannon fodder. The situation in Ukraine shows that the United States is trying to drag the conflict out, and it acts in exactly the same way trying to fuel conflicts in Asia, Africa and Latin America.” The speech represented the latest attempt by the Russian leader to rally support amid … [Read more...] about Putin blasts US ‘hegemony,’ predicts end to ‘unipolar’ world
Estonia removes Soviet-era monument, citing public order

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Estonia's government said Tuesday it has decided to remove a Soviet-era monument from public space in an eastern border town sitting in the Baltic country's Russian-speaking part, with the prime minister saying the reason for the dismantling is that it represents a risk for public order. “No one wants to see our militant and hostile neighbor foment tensions in our home,” Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said, adding the move came following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “We will not afford Russia the opportunity to use the past to disturb the peace in Estonia.” Kallas said they didn't want to give Russia the opportunity of "tearing open old wounds.” Outside Narva — Estonia's third largest town with a large Russian speaking population — a replica of a T-34 tank with a red Soviet star sits atop a monument commemorating the Soviet … [Read more...] about Estonia removes Soviet-era monument, citing public order
Otmar Szafnauer has ‘absolutely no worries’ about Fernando Alonso’s focus
Team boss Otmar Szafnauer has “absolutely no worries” about Fernando Alonso mentally checking out of Alpine before the end of the season. Alonso shocked many in the paddock when he announced, as he headed off for his summer break, he would be leaving the team to take Sebastian Vettel’s vacant seat at Aston Martin. His decision surprised Alpine too as the team thought they had been closing in on a one-year extension with the double former World Champion, Szafnauer previously revealing he had no warning. But despite the untimely announcement, at least on Alpine’s part, the team are confident Alonso will be fully committed through to his very last lap as an Alpine driver. “I have absolutely no worries about the rest of the season,” Szafnauer said, quoted by Autosport. “Our goals are pretty clear. We want to finish at least fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. I think third is a step too far. “ Fernando realises that too. He’s a professional. He’s a … [Read more...] about Otmar Szafnauer has ‘absolutely no worries’ about Fernando Alonso’s focus

Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The 2026 F1 season will see the introduction of a new power unit formula – the first since the FIA introduced the current V6 turbo hybrid engines that are still in place today back in 2014. The power unit introduced for the 2026 season will continue to use the current 1.6 litre V6 internal combustion engine, but with a decreased fuel flow limit that will produce around 400kW of power. The current MGU-H component of the hybrid system will be entirely removed, as expected, while the total power generated by the power unit’s energy recovery system (ERS) will increase to around 350kW. … [Read more...] about F1’s 2026 power unit regulations approved by FIA’s World Motor Sport Council · RaceFans
Book World: Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol’s bond was fleeting. The movies live on.
As it Turns Out: Thinking about Edie and Andy By Alice Sedgwick Wohl Farrar, Straus and Giroux. 272 pp. $28 - - - From March 1965 until January 1966, New York City was beguiled by an unexpected "it" couple. Andy Warhol - effete, strange-looking with his pallid skin and silver wig - was emerging as the principal practitioner of Pop Art. Edie Sedgwick - waiflike, modern with her pixie haircut and hoop earrings - was described as a debutante, heiress and member of the Boston Brahmins (none of which was actually true). During their time together in the spotlight, which started in earnest when they appeared at a preview of "Three Centuries of American Painting" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and received more press attention than fellow attendee first lady Lady Bird Johnson, they dominated the Manhattan social scene. As Merv Griffin said of them when they appeared on his television show, "No party in New York is considered a success unless they are there." Although the … [Read more...] about Book World: Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol’s bond was fleeting. The movies live on.
I’d go anywhere right now to see a Sondheim musical
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Revisiting as many Sondheim musicals as possible is not an arduous undertaking, and one I have engaged in at many junctures of my life. But this year, the first in the aftermath of Stephen Sondheim's death, feels like an essential part of a grieving process. As much as I can - to paraphrase one of Sondheim and James Lapine's own characters in "Sunday in the Park With George"- I want to live again in his canvasses. Broadway has recently obliged with outstanding revivals of "Company" (1970) and "Into the Woods" (1987), and the months ahead offer other intriguing possibilities: Sondheim-centric Signature Theatre in Arlington, Va., is turning its new season into a veritable retrospective, offering up three Sondheim musicals, including the rarely seen "Pacific Overtures," from 1976, to be directed by Ethan Heard, the company's recently appointed associate artistic … [Read more...] about I’d go anywhere right now to see a Sondheim musical
An interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
KYIV, Ukraine - Over the past six months, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has become an inspiring wartime leader and champion of his country. During an hour-long, wide-ranging interview with The Washington Post at the presidential office, where hallways are kept dark and are lined with sandbags to protect against Russian attack, Zelensky discussed U.S. warnings about Russia preparing to launch a full-scale invasion - and if he believed them. The following is a translated and lightly edited transcript of excerpts from the interview. The full transcript will be published at a later date. - - - Q: When CIA Director William J. Burns met with you here in Kyiv in January, one of the things he told you was that the Russians would attempt a landing at the airport in Hostomel. What was your reaction when that actually happened on Feb. 24? Should there have been more Ukrainian forces already there? A: Regarding the airport, some six months prior to all of this, and perhaps even … [Read more...] about An interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
