It doesn't have to do with regulations. As you would expect from an absolute EV flagship with a six-figure price tag, the Mercedes EQS is brimming with tech. From its powerful dual-motor AWD setup to the 56-inch Hyperscreen, the fullsize luxury sedan is worthy of its status as the S-Class of electric cars. That said, some would argue there's one glaring omission – side cameras. Daimler CEO Ola Källenius explained in an interview with Automotive News Europe why the R&D team behind the EQS decided to stick with good ol' side mirrors. Long story short, Mercedes was concerned that seeing what goes on behind the vehicle would've resulted in motion sickness. Not only that, but the electricity needed to power the cameras would've almost negated the aerodynamic benefits created after replacing the bulky mirrors with tiny cameras. By the time the current 2.2-liter V6 twin-turbo regs expire at the end of the 2022 season, they will have served the NTT IndyCar Series for 11 seasons, with Chevrolet and Honda finding ever-smaller areas in which to improve and gain an edge. With displacement increasing to 2.4-liters, an increase in boost from the twinned BorgWarner turbos and the addition of a KERS hybrid unit, IndyCar is aiming to hit 900hp, and IndyCar president Jay Frye said recently that he expects the series to be “pushing” that figure – on road and street courses – soon into 2023. Looking large and in charge. Following several winter testing sessions in Sweden, the next-generation Land Rover Range Rover is back at the Nurburgring for more high-speed evaluations. A new video shows the large SUV wearing a full-body camouflage while lapping the famous German track at a decent tempo. Despite the loud tire screeching, the new Range Rover doesn’t seem to be put to its limits. Instead, it seems that the test pilot is maintaining a constant pace and is probably collecting data about the vehicle’s performance in the endurance department. Still, the luxury model looks quite composed in the corners with minimal body roll considering its size and weight. A quick look at the BMW electrification roadmap reveals new and upgraded models on the horizon BMW Group started sales of plug-in electric cars in 2013 with the BMW i3. The first models under the BMW i sub-brand were standalone, designed from the ground up. Over the next couple of years, the German manufacturer focused on introducing plug-in hybrid versions of its existing models. The upcoming next stage of the electrification will be the introduction of new all-electric cars, but again mostly derivatives of existing BMW models to keep costs under control. So far, BMW Group sold almost 400,000 plug-in electric cars and the goal for this year is to exceed 500,000. The roadmap envisions 25 new plug-in models to be introduced by 2025, including at least 12 all-electric.
