BMW Malaysia unveiled the First-Ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo here in Kuala Lumpur earlier today. The 6 Series GT, as it is called, replaces the previous BMW 5 Series GT and is essentially the second generation of what is the BMW Gran Turismo range of fastback luxury cars. Here, we will get one variant, the BMW 630i GT. The other surprise revealed today is that the 630i GT will be locally assembled in Kulim, Kedah like its other 3,5 and 7 Series brethren. This basically adds another very premium BMW to the CKD line-up. The 2018/2019 BMW 630i GT, is powered by a BMW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit which makes 258 hp and 400Nm torque. This gives a top speed of 250km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds. It still is very fuel efficient in doing so as the car posts a combined fuel consumption of 6.6 litres per 100 kilometres and CO 2 emissions of 152 grams per kilometre. The 6 Series GT is also the car which increases BMW Group … [Read more...] about BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo Has Been Launched in Malaysia

BMW has officially confirmed that the i Vision Dynamics concept that was shown in Frankfurt last year will become reality, and will be known as the BMW i4 when it enters into series production. The announcement about the electric sedan was made by the automaker at the Geneva Motor Show. It will be part of the 25 new electrified models the company has outlined for 2025, essentially one of the 12 pure electric models in the line-up. Styled along four-door Gran Coupe lines in the same vein as the 4 Series Gran Coupe and 6 Series Gran Coupe, the i Vision Dynamics is capable of a 600 km operating range on a single charge, and performance figures include a 0-100 km/h time of four seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. The study also showcased the automaker’s next-gen battery technology that will begin appearing in its various plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles from around 2020. No timeframe for the i4’s entry into the market was announced, but the company is set to deploy a … [Read more...] about BMW i4 confirmed
If you’re a BMW purist, you may want to stop reading here. Why, you ask? Because in a radical departure, your favorite Bavarian hatch is losing its key point of difference – that being its rear-wheel-drive layout. Ach nein! However is it really all doom and front-wheel-drive gloom for BMW’s next-generation A-Class fighter? To find out more, let’s illustratively explore further: The Ultimate Driving Platform? The current F20/F21 1 Series is an absolute hoot to drive on a twisty backroad. It’s fast, tail-happy and communicative. Unfortunately, the downside to this is cramped back seat accommodation, due to its rear-wheel-drive layout. To get around this packaging stalemate (and let’s face it, to spread costs for its FWD-based platform), BMW has switched to front-wheel-drive. But will it handle as good as its predecessor? Many skeptics have cast doubt, yet BMW is giving its best shot by using the automaker’s latest FAAR platform. Mind you, this … [Read more...] about New 2019 BMW 1-Series Hatch: What It Will Look Like And Everything Else We Know
Last week, BMW surprised us with a teaser of a new concept car for the Geneva Motor Show, and today the wraps have finally come off the new BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé. This confirms the existence of a four-door 8 Series Gran Coupé – which will arrive in 2019, replacing the 6 Series Gran Coupé – and also gives us our first look at the styling of the top dog, high-performance M8. The slim laser-powered headlights, hexagonal four-eye lighting signature and massive trapezoidal kidney grille – joined together in the middle as on early BMW coupés – have been lifted from the Concept 8 Series, but the large, hyper-aggressive air intake design, made from carbon fibre, is all new. Along the side, massive channels have been carved out the flanks, flowing from the Air Breather vents – now adorned with the M8 logo – positioned aft of the front wheels. The low-slung glasshouse tapers inward towards the rear, accentuating the muscular rear … [Read more...] about BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe previews new four-door
We’ve seen the 2017 sales figures for both Mercedes-Benz and BMW in Malaysia. BMW sold more as a group (12,680 units of BMWs, MINIs and motorcycles), but its namesake brand was behind Mercedes – 10,618 vs 12,045 units. The guys from Munich saw much higher growth though – 18% for the BMW brand vs Merc’s 2.3%. Just like in Malaysia, the two German premium giants have been looking over their shoulders globally. It was a tight race, so tight that the press release headlines were rather confusing. Mercedes had “Number 1” in its PR headline while BMW had “Number One”. Audi wasn’t close enough to claim victory, but had “record-breaking sales” in 2017. Here’s what they proclaimed.“Mercedes-Benz achieved its most successful year of all time in 2017. As a result of its success in all three core regions – Europe, Asia-Pacific and NAFTA – Mercedes-Benz was the best-selling premium brand in the automobile … [Read more...] about 2017 premium brand car sales – all-time records for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi; but who came out tops?
