Riding with Rita: A Woman’s Point of View 2018 Lexus NX 300 By Rita Cook New name, same ride with the 2018 Lexus NX 300 formerly known as the NX 200t. With few changes to mention, Lexus lovers won’t have anything to be disappointed about with this new iteration. The major changes to the 2018 NX 300 are the additions of the Safety System+ package as a standard feature and a bigger display screen with larger touch pad. Competition with this small luxury crossover includes the BMW x1 SUV, Buick Envision SUV and the Volkswagen Tiguan, but the Lexus’ five-passenger, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine offers plenty of power and a pleasing ride. Trim Level Options The 2018 Lexus NX 300 comes in two trims either a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or the six-speed automatic transmission. 2018 Lexus NX 300; Cars.com photos by Christian Lantry It may be on the small side, but Lexus' compact SUV stands out with its big, bold face. Again this year, the 2018 NX 300's angular look is anchored by Lexus' huge spindle grille, a polarizing style hallmark for the brand. Related: How Do Car Seats Fit in a 2018 Lexus NX 300? For the 2018 model year, Lexus updated the NX with lightly revised styling, a mildly redone interior, some new displays and new interior trim. We tested the NX 300 with the F Sport trim, which wears even more attitude courtesy of more aggressive jet-black trim, exclusive wheels and metallic interior trim. Inside, the most noticeable change is the new 10.3-inch display screen that sits atop the center control panel; it replaces the smaller 7-inch unit. The controls for it are still on the center console, but the remote touch interface pad is now larger for (supposedly) easier operation. How does the NX 300 measure up to the competition? The SUV went … [Read more...] about 2018 Lexus NX 300: Luxury Compact SUV Challenge Gallery
The NX has undergone a mild mid-cycle update for 2018, bringing a slew of tech improvements, active safety enhancements, and revised styling – so, as you might remember, we took one for a test drive to get a first-hand experience of Lexus’ premium compact SUV. Along with the update, Lexus also changed its naming policy. Thus, the NX 200t became the NX 300, although it’s basically the same model, powered by a 235-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder. In that, at least, it falls in line with the Germans’ somewhat confusing nomenclature in which the badge has no connection whatsoever to the engine’s capacity. Go-Fast Looks, Not-So-Fast Performance The name might have changed, but the 2018 NX 300 still hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in roughly 7.2 seconds. That’s fairly slow for something with “Sport” in its name, never mind the competition: the Lexus trails the BMW X3 xDrive30i by a whole second, while the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which we have … [Read more...] about 2018 Lexus NX 300 F-Sport 2.0 Turbo Review: Is It As Edgy As It Looks?
2018 Lexus NX 300; Cars.com photos by Christian Lantry Decent rear legroom makes the 2018 Lexus NX 300 fairly accommodating when it comes to rear-facing car seats, which usually take up a lot of space. In terms of forward-facing seats, however, it was a completely different story. It was a challenge to install a booster in the compact SUV's backseat due to a tricky buckle setup. The NX also lost points for a roof-mounted top tether anchor, which blocks the driver's view when in use. How many car seats fit in the second row? Two Related: More Car Seat Checks Solid Rear-facing convertible, grade A: Installation was easy, and we were able to move the front passenger seat back for a bit more legroom. Forward-facing convertible, grade A: We installed this seat using an outboard top tether anchor, and connection was easy. The seat fit well once we removed the head restraint. So-So Latch, grade B: The two sets of anchors sit just within the seat bight, where the back … [Read more...] about How Do Car Seats Fit in a 2018 Lexus NX 300?
The NX isn’t the newest Lexus crossover, but for 2018, the two-row compact model gets some welcomed upgrades for its third birthday. Most noticeable is its name; gone is the 200t nomenclature and present is the new NX 300 designation. Not surprisingly, the name has nothing to do with engine displacement or power specs. Tell me about the cosmetic changes Lexus’ big Spindle Grille gets bigger for 2018 on F-Sport models with added grilles below the fishhook daytime running lights. The rear bumper and taillights are also revised for a more menacing stance. New 18-inch wheels can be optioned in summer-performance Bridgestone tires for some added credibility to the NX’s appearance. The non-F-Sport models get a slight visual update, too. Inside, the 2018 NX 300 has a larger trackpad for the Enform infotainment system. Upgrade to the navigation package and the eight-inch screen increases to a 10.3-inch unit. Sadly, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still missing. Fans of … [Read more...] about We Drive The 2018 Lexus NX 300 F-Sport, Ask Us Anything
