Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes will conduct 2017 tyre testing for Pirelli at five different circuits beginning next month. New tyres and aero shouldn’t harm overtaking – Hembery · RaceFans
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery says the changes to F1 cars and tyres in 2017 shouldn’t make overtaking much more difficult. This year’s cars will have wider wings and more powerful aerodynamics, prompting fears drivers will be unable to race each other closely due to the increased turbulence. “The package of aero that’s coming for this season is intended to reduce, if you like, that impact,” said Hembery at the Autosport International show. “The tyres themselves, we’ve made them so there’s less thermal overheating of the surface and the idea of that is you’ll be able to push harder if you’re trying to overtake somebody.” “So between the two the intention is that should be sufficient to give us stronger overtaking.” New lap records “You’ve got a 25 percent increase in the width of the tyre so you’re going to say at least 25 percent [more grip], because we’ve also changed a lot of the technology in the tyre itself,” he said. “The objective we had, as a package … [Read more...] about New tyres and aero shouldn’t harm overtaking – Hembery · RaceFans
New standing start rule to mean more Safety Car lapping – F1 Fanatic
Last year’s United States Grand Prix began on a wet track with the traditional standing start. That’s something you would be forgiven for thinking was no longer possible. Twice already this year we’ve seen wet races start behind the Safety Car. Now, following complaints that the Monaco and British Grands Prix did not feature classic standing starts, new rules have been drawn up for 2017 to address the problem . the race director will get a ‘second chance’ to use a standing start when the track is wet . The 2017 rules allow the field to leave the grid behind the Safety Car and complete any number of laps behind it before taking their places on the grid for a standing start. On the face of it this seems a smart change in the rules. But its full implications are yet to be tested. In this new scenario where drivers will be lapping behind the Safety Car in anticipation of a standing start, they will be keen to ensure their starting position is as dry as possible. So expect to … [Read more...] about New standing start rule to mean more Safety Car lapping – F1 Fanatic

Seven Bottas races which show he’s the real deal · RaceFans
Mercedes have handed the most coveted seat in Formula One, and a potential shot at the 2017 world championship, to Valtteri Bottas . Like his predecessor Nico Rosberg, Bottas he joins the team having spent his entire F1 career to date at Williams. And while he’s had few opportunities to mix it at the very sharp end of the field, we have seen a few clues of the potential which Mercedes obviously feel is waiting to be unlocked. Appropriately the driver of car number 77 has started 77 grands prix to date. Here’s seven of them which show why he deserves his shot at the big time. 2013 Canadian Grand Prix Realising a place in Q3 could be his if he nailed his first flying lap, Bottas overtook Jenson Button’s McLaren as he came around to begin his run. This proved vital: Button failed to get across the line in time while Bottas comfortably gained a place in the top ten. Team mate Pastor Maldonado, mired in traffic, was almost one-and-a-half seconds slower. Bottas proved his … [Read more...] about Seven Bottas races which show he’s the real deal · RaceFans
Report: FBI investigating Santos fundraiser for sick dog
NEW YORK (AP) — Federal authorities are investigating a military veteran's claim that U.S. Rep. George Santos raised $3,000 for life-saving surgery for his pet dog several years ago, then never turned over the money for the animal's care, according to a published report. U.S. Navy veteran Richard Osthoff told Politico on Wednesday that two FBI agents contacted him after he went public last month with his story about his experiences with Santos in 2016. Osthoff told the news site he gave the agents text messages he exchanged with Santos, who at the time was going by the name Anthony Devolder. “I’m glad to get the ball rolling with the bigwigs,” Osthoff said. “I was worried that what happened to me was too long ago to be prosecuted.” The local news site Patch reported last month that Osthoff, now 47, was living in a roadside tent in Howell, New Jersey, in May 2016 when his pit bull mix, Sapphire, developed a life-threatening stomach tumor. A veterinary technician connected … [Read more...] about Report: FBI investigating Santos fundraiser for sick dog
Kia Teases Its 2023 Super Bowl Commercial With … A Pacifier?
Friends, it's that time of year once again. Super Bowl LVII (57 for those who don't know roman numerals beyond X, V, and I) is just around the corner, and that means creative Super Bowl commercials are about to flood the digital airwaves. Kia will return for a special Big Game ad this year, and to be frank, a teaser image showing a pacifier without context has us scratching our heads. Actually, it's not completely without context. The photo features a blue pacifier on a tiled floor with a simple statement: Find it on 2.12.23. That's the date for this year's Super Bowl, and find it suggests we will see someone trying to figure out where this little thing went. Logic suggests it will be a parent or a baby, but with Super Bowl ads usually costing millions of dollars for a 30-second spot, it better be something really catchy. Fourth-Gen Chevy Camaro Races Swapped Nissan 240SX In LS V8 Showdown
General Motors’ LS engines have ended up in a lot of cars that the American automaker did not make. It has been a go-to motor for enthusiasts and tuners for years because of its power potential, finding its way into an assortment of makes and models, like the 1991 Nissan 240SX in the Hoonigan video above. It’s facing off against another LS-powered monster – a modified fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro. The 2002 Chevrolet Camaro features a juiced 6.0-liter V8 engine. The output with nitrous is between 700 and 800 horsepower (521 and 596 kilowatts). The power glides to the wheels and the 9.0-inch rear end through a two-speed gearbox. Inside, the owner gave the Chevrolet a safety cage. The Nissan’s owner swapped out the 240’s engine for an LS motor with nitrous. The coupe pumps out around 700 hp, which puts it on par with the Camaro. This would seem like a fairly even race looking at the engine specs, but there is a big difference between the two – weight. The Camaro tips the … [Read more...] about Fourth-Gen Chevy Camaro Races Swapped Nissan 240SX In LS V8 Showdown
Citroen C3 Aircross Looks Larger Than Outgoing Model In New Spy Shots
Citroen is developing the second-generation C3 Aircross. The automaker made it a standalone offering in 2017, giving it its mid-cycle refresh for the 2021 model year. The new C3 Aircross that will replace the current offering was caught by our spy photographers testing in northern Sweden, and it doesn’t look anything like the C3 on sale today. The vehicle looks much larger than the current model. It will allegedly ride on Stellantis’ CMP architecture, which was introduced in 2019 and underpins several models from the company’s various brands. The platform also underpins the Peugeot 2008, which our spy photographers also recently caught out and about .
