Vehicles Affected: Approximately 34,300 model-year 2017-18 Alfa Romeo Giulia sedans and model-year 2018 Stelvio SUVs, Quadrifoglio models excepted The Problem: A specific engine operating condition that occurs naturally, but only rarely, and is imperceptible to the driver may go unmitigated by existing engine control software, which could cause the catalytic converter to overheat, possibly leading to an engine stall or, in unique circumstances, fire. Alfa Romeo parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said it is unaware of any related accidents or injuries. The Fix: Dealers will update the engine control software and, as necessary, replace the catalytic converters for free. What Owners Should Do: FCA will begin notifying owners the first week of October. Owners can call Alfa Romeo at 866-932-3881, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more. If one thing's clear about the Kia Stinger GT, it's that it doesn't have a clear competitor. There just aren't many mid-sized, twin-turbocharged, V-6, rear-wheel-drive hatchbacks out there. Absent an exact match, we humbly suggest the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti. Both are new players in the sports sedan-ish game, and we can connect the dots: Kia hired the former vice president of engineering for BMW's M Performance division to lead high-performance development at Hyundai-Kia, and the Giulia stole the crown of best-driving sedan from BMW in Cars.com's 2017 Luxury Sports Sedan Challenge. OK, it's a stretch, but the matchup makes sense — that is, dollars and cents. As-tested pricing for the Stinger GT was $50,100, and the Giulia Ti was $51,990 (all prices include destination charges). Hello there, car shopper. Perhaps you are in the market for a sporty sedan. You could buy yourself any number of nice, reliable and sort-of-fun sedans, or you can live on the edge and get something with an Italian flair. That’s because the Alfa Romeo Giulia is already depreciating into tempting price ranges. There is no debate that the Alfa Romeo Giulia is wonderful to drive. What is a bit of a wild card is how reliable it will be in the long haul. It seems that most of the early teething issues that added to Alfa’s reputation of unreliability have been worked out, but despite modern manufacturing techniques, Alfa owners will always have a lingering question about the durability of their chosen ride. But hey, life is an adventure and things aren’t always certain. You don’t want to drive a Toyota Camry anyway. While the Giulia hasn’t been out for very long, the predictable depreciation curve has already started to set in and some nice cars can be had for … [Read more...] about The Cheap Alfa Romeo Giulias Are Coming
This isn’t the Alfa Romeo that your dad had in college, the Spider that was great on sunny days but wrecked his bank account over and over again with its repair bills. This isn’t the Alfa Romeo of the 1990s, after it left America and turned out one dismal Fiat-sourced front-wheel drive hatchback after another. This isn’t even the Alfa Romeo that recently cranked out the 4C, a wonderful, hardcore and at times objectively bad car designed only for crazy people. The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is the vanguard of the new Alfa Romeo, the one that’s the recipient of a huge cash dump from parent Fiat Chrysler in hopes that it can take on the German luxury brands. It does so with a Ferrari-derived turbocharged engine and some of the best driving dynamics you can find in this class. It also does so with a series of letdowns you might expect from Alfa Romeo, but let me tell you this: when this thing is on, it’s on. (Full Disclosure: On a recent visit to … [Read more...] about 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: The Jalopnik Review
Whispers of a new Alfa Romeo coupe wearing a legendary nameplate? We’re all ears. Autocar reports that the Italian automaker is toiling away on a new 6C -- and that such a car would be a coupe positioned between the 4C and the Giulia. The source here is a little bit unusual: The heads-up comes courtesy of German tuning company Pogea Racing, which claims it is involved with the development of the car. That’s fairly scant evidence even as far as rumors and insinuations go, and of course FCA provided us with no information on the upcoming model when we asked (not that we expected an outright confirmation or denial). But there are a number of reasons to believe that such a car could be in the works -- and that whatever it’s ultimately called, and whatever it looks like, it will be a front-engine rear-wheel-drive coupe. For one, Alfa spent a lot of time and money developing its Giorgio platform, which currently underpins the Giulia, the Stelvio SUV … and … [Read more...] about Yes, please: A new Alfa Romeo 6C may be in the works
