Rumored to be named “Blazer,” the model will slot between the small Equinox and the large Traverse. Although most of the crossover is covered up, we can see its narrow headlights and grille slats popping out from underneath the camo. These elements might not be ready for production, but they give us a better indication on what to expect for the final model. Also notice the model’s flat nose and upright rear end, which align with the rest of Chevy’s crossover lineup. The new model will likely ride on the Chi crossover platform, which underpins the new GMC Acadia and Cadillac XT5. Chevrolet may employ a standard 2.5-liter inline-four engine as well as an optional … [Read more...] about Spied! Chevrolet Midsize SUV Peeks Out from Under the Camo

In redesigning the midsize Chevrolet Malibu sedan for the 2016 model year, General Motors shaved an impressive amount of weight from the not-so-well-regarded eighth-generation model. It also stretched the wheelbase, adding volume to a rear seat many found lacking. Now boasting carefully creased body panels, the lithe-looking new Malibu relegated the chunky, previous design to the Island of Bad Bodies. That frowny face could still use some work, many said at the time. For 2019, GM takes care of that, updating — fairly extensively — the model’s visage in a mid-cycle refresh. The Malibu also sees the addition of a dedicated “sporty” trim. As seen in these photos, the Malibu adopts a larger grille and a less compartmentalized front fascia for 2019. If the previous model looked a little ornery, the new one appears somewhat joyous. Gone are the LED-ringed side vents, replaced by secondary lights (and trim) that flow towards the bottom of the now-taller grille. … [Read more...] about For 2019, the Chevrolet Malibu Puts on a Happier Face

The changes are subtle, but the upper and lower grilles are now wider with different horizontal slats. The headlights, though similar to last year’s lamps, have been redesigned with new LED piping. Chevy also added LED accents to the taillights on the Premier trim. The Cruze can still be had as either a sedan or hatchback, a body style Chevy says accounted for 20 percent of all Cruze sales in 2017, the hatch’s first full year of production. Also new for 2019 is a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen running the … [Read more...] about 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, Chevy Spark Get Midcycle Refresh
Chevrolet engineers made substantial improvements with their most recent redesign of the Malibu, introduced for 2016. They increased space and added loads of new technology but at the same time shed close to 300 pounds from the car's curb weight. But the Malibu competes in a hotly contested segment, and the competition's getting tougher by the day as consumers continue to ditch sedans in favor of crossovers, so it's a good thing the Malibu's engineers aren't resting on their laurels. Instead, they've introduced a round of updates for 2019. On the outside, the 2019 Malibu adopts a more traditional albeit much larger grille (the current Malibu has an odd three-split grille design). The headlights are also new and stretch toward the top of the grille, with a chrome strip serving as the separator. At the rear, the team has pushed the exhaust tips further out to enhance the sense of width. They also tweaked the design of the taillights and added LEDs on some trim levels. The Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan is bigger yet lighter for 2016, with fresh styling, a new turbo-charged engine and more technology and safety features. With 153 horsepower, the Cruze is more powerful than its predecessor and tops the 140 horsepower of one of its biggest competitors, the Toyota Corolla. The Cruze also has 177 foot-pounds of torque — 15 more foot-pounds than another competitor, the Honda Civic — helping it to beat many cars while leaving a stoplight. Perhaps most important for millennial car shoppers, the 2016 Cruze is compatible with Apply CarPlay and Android Auto, so smartphone apps are easily accessed. The Cruze can become a Wi-Fi hotspot through a 4G LTE service, and one option allows drivers and passengers to wirelessly charge compatible devices. The Cruze also provides five years or 60,000 miles of complimentary roadside assistance standard — Corolla and Civic roadside assistance programs don't last as long. That might come in handy, considering … [Read more...] about Chevrolet Cruze fresh, smartphone-friendly and fast
The world is shifting, and with it, the automobile. In another generation or so, gas powered cars may be a thing of the past, left only to enthusiasts and collectors. Electric cars are nothing new. In fact, the world’s first practical electric vehicle dates back to 1835, predating Karl Benz’ patent on his motorized carriage by 50 years! However, what is new in the world of electric cars is mainstream variety. EV’s are no longer an obscure novelty item, nor are they being stamped out by “Big Oil” like GM’s fabled EV1 of the 90’s. Nowadays nearly every car company offers some variant on an electric car, hybrid or plug-in hybrid. With more and more popping up every day, you now have your pick of the litter. Electric cars now come in a variety of shapes, sizes and trim levels. With an electric vehicle that can meet almost any budget, there’s an electric out there for you. Here at Auto City, we are fortunate enough to see some really great … [Read more...] about THE ELECTRIC CAR SHOOTOUT: Chevrolet Volt vs. Nissan Leaf vs. BMW i3
Was it really 22 months ago that I first encountered the fleet-customers-only 2016 Chevrolet Malibu? Indeed it was — and although the rental companies were quick to take advantage of what was presumably an absolutely massive discount on the General’s leftovers, they have not been in a hurry to release their inventory of these cars into the auction lanes. That’s particularly true in the case of our local National Car Rental franchisee, which is actually a Chevrolet dealer in disguise. Which explains why Danger Girl’s final car rental of the year turned out to be a rather well-worn and thoroughly undistinguished example of the fleet-spec ‘Bu LTZ.Why review this car yet again? Simple. You’d never guess it, but my review of the rental-spec Chevrolet Captiva turned out to be one of the biggest articles in TTAC history. A lot of people who were looking at ex-rental Captivas in the used market ended up reading it and (one hopes) learning something about the … [Read more...] about 2016 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ Rental Review – Your Next Used Car?
Coke and Pepsi. Colt and Smith & Wesson. Bert and Ernie. Camry and Accord. The greatest rivalries inspire both loyalty and loathing among fans on either sides of the fence, but there can be only one victor. In the automotive world, sales are the yardstick by which success is measured, as passion alone can’t keep a car model alive. For the sedan segment, no rivalry is fiercer than that of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, both longstanding standouts in the midsize class. With both models taking a larger and larger share of the shrinking market, and having both received an extensive revamp for the 2018 model year, how did the two challengers perform in 2017?The next-generation Camry was first out of the gate, bearing a new, somewhat controversial design, and a massaged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivering impressive efficiency. Toyota retained the V6 upgrade. As summer passed, the new Accord joined the race. Arguably the looker of the two, the 2018 Accord ditched its long-running … [Read more...] about So, Which of These Two Models Won the Race Last Year?
Cadillac's upcoming XT4, a crossover we've previously known as the XT3 in a long series of spy shots of heavily camouflaged mules, will be built at General Motors' assembly plant in Kansas City on the same platform as the Chevrolet Malibu, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the plan. That will give Cadillac another entry in the red-hot luxury crossover segment and, GM hopes, help to reverse a sales slump in the U.S. It'll also breath life into the Kansas City plant that makes the slow-selling Malibu, where GM cut a third shift last year, by sharing the assembly line between the crossover and sedan and defraying costs for each vehicle. The XT4 was known most recently as the XT3, with styling cues based on the Escala concept sedan from 2016. It's slightly smaller than the XT5, Cadillac's top-selling vehicle, and will also augment the full-size Escalade in Cadillac's stable of SUVs when it makes its expected debut later this year.Cadillac last week reported its … [Read more...] about Cadillac XT4 crossover to be built in Kansas City
