Edmunds.com's review says 'Road and wind noise are things you're only distantly aware of in the Malibu's cabin. Chevy set out to make this Malibu the quietest one yet, and they nailed it. 2015 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo First Test
With well-defined shoulder lines, clean 19-inch wheels, and Impala-like front styling, the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo is one good-looking four-door. As a midsize sedan, though, the volume model is less than convincing. Chevrolet tried to remedy this for 2014 by adding a little more rear-seat knee room, updated sheetmetal, and standard engine stop-start technology, but in our most recent Big Test comparison, the car placed sixth out of six cars. That review covered the Malibu with the 2.5-liter I-4, so when a loaded 2015 Malibu Turbo arrived in the Motor Trend Garage, we track-tested the car to see how well its enhanced performance matches up to the competition. Slam the Malibu Turbo’s throttle to the floor, and you’ll either be highly entertained or slightly nauseated, or both. Turbocharged four-cylinder four-doors can be lots of fun when you’re not interested in the more linear feel of a six-cylinder midsize sedan. In the Malibu Turbo, a bit of turbo lag is followed … [Read more...] about 2015 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo First Test
2016 Chevrolet Malibu 2.0T First Test Review
Chevrolet is proud of the redesigned 2016 Malibu, and it should be. With its larger dimensions and lighter weight, bold styling, premium interior, and new technology, the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu midsize sedan seems to address our criticism of the outgoing model, and appears to be much more competitive, too. Although Chevrolet added 3.6 inches of wheelbase (1.3 inches more rear legroom) and 2.3 inches of overall length, the new Malibu is up to 300 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. More high-strength steel in the chassis is said to contribute to about 100 pounds of the weight loss. Good thing, too, as both the 1.5T and 2.0T engines are less powerful than their base-engine and engine-upgrade equivalents in the outgoing model. More on the Malibu: 2016 Chevrolet Malibu 1.5T First Test Review We recently sampled the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu in Palo Alto, California, near Stanford University in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our drive included a Malibu LT with the base 1.5-liter, … [Read more...] about 2016 Chevrolet Malibu 2.0T First Test Review
Shanghai 2015: Chevrolet Malibu facelift for China
The reworked Chevrolet Malibu has been revealed at Auto Shanghai 2015 – designed and engineered specially for the Chinese market, it differs from the US-market facelift of the current eighth-generation model, which has since been replaced by an all-new car. We’ve seen this car before, as pictures of the China-only D-segment sedan have been leaked earlier this year. At the front is an updated front fascia with a narrower upper grille, “eagle eye” headlights, a large lower grille and reshaped fog light surrounds, plus sharper lines on the bonnet. The leaked photos also show more integrated “dual element” tail lights – they are said to harken back to the original Malibu – while the bumper has been subtly reshaped, hiding the previously-visible dual tailpipes. Chevrolet says this facelifted Malibu is longer than before, although we are not sure if the added length is as a result of a longer wheelbase (manufacturers routinely offer China-only … [Read more...] about Shanghai 2015: Chevrolet Malibu facelift for China
Review: 2015 Chevrolet Malibu Eco LS
Exterior photography by Rachel GibbsWhat did the American people get for the fifty billion dollars they spent and the eleven billion they lost on the General Motors bailout? Well, they got stability, they got the retention of perhaps a million jobs, they avoided what might have been a last straw in what a posterity unblinded by the contemporaneous media’s Obama-as-messiah drumbeat will recognize as the greatest depression since the Great one, and they got the C7 Corvette. All good things, if you ask me.But they also got garbage like this.I thought the original Malibu was pretty okay. Its replacement, I felt, was worse, but I held out the possibility that a round of 2014-model-year changes might improve the situation somewhat. It has to be said that General Motors did a good job of getting its tame mouthpieces to spread the word about the “new” Eco drivetrain being just as efficient as the old-for-2013 edition despite the fact that it loses eAssist in favor of a simple … [Read more...] about Review: 2015 Chevrolet Malibu Eco LS
Capsule Review: 2015 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ
The Malibu was pretty good. It looked good. It drove nicely enough. It sold in decent numbers. But that was between 2008 and 2012. • U.S. Market Price As Tested: $33,380 • Horsepower: 196 @ 6300 rpm • Torque: 191 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm • Observed Fuel Economy: 23.5 mpgThe 2013 Malibu wasn’t so great. It didn’t look good. It didn’t drive so nicely. It wasn’t very pleasant inside. It didn’t sell so well. But with the speed of a cat lover furiously favouriting tweets of bathing felines, GM refreshed the Malibu for the 2014 model year. Verdict: the refresh was inadequate.GM deserves credit, and I’m not even kidding, for understanding that the 2013 Malibu wasn’t good enough, and even more brownie points for realizing that the updated 2014/2015 Malibu is unsatisfactory, too. GM will therefore introduce a new Malibu for model year 2016, fast-forwarding to the next generation with all due haste in a market that sees Honda Accords … [Read more...] about Capsule Review: 2015 Chevrolet Malibu LTZ
New York 2015: Chevrolet Malibu Revealed
Well, it’s, uh…different. The new ‘Bu loses 300 lbs, gains a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine making 160 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The 2.0T sticks around, with 250 hp, 258 torques and an 8-speed gearbox. Apparently, the new hybrid will be both quicker than the 1.5L engine while getting 45 mpg combined on the EPA test. And yes, there’s more rear legroom. … [Read more...] about New York 2015: Chevrolet Malibu Revealed
2015 Chevrolet Malibu LT Rental Car Review
He was a nice young man working the Enterprise counter, but I wasn’t buying his upgrade spiel. “Ya know, if you’re going to Joliet, there will be a lot of big trucks on the highway, I can upgrade you to a full size for just $15.” Thanks, but no thanks, I will take my Kia and be on my way. But when I met Anthony at the parking lot I was told; “Mr. Ward, I see we have you for an economy car, but I have none left. How about this Chevy Malibu?”“Ka-Ching!” I win, looks like I’ll be saving that $3 a day for coffee.Despite the upgrade, I wasn’t exactly pumped about the Malibu, I was hoping for a Charger or even a 300. I hadn’t tried the Malibu, but the previous generations had left me wanting. There, the gleaming silver bullet, sat with just over 13,000 miles. I was in a much better mood than my trip to Houston last month, and Enterprise had managed to get me in and out in less than 15 minutes, … [Read more...] about 2015 Chevrolet Malibu LT Rental Car Review
GM Gives Away 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, Invests $174 Million In Kansas
In celebration of a key milestone, General Motors CEO Mary Barra gave away a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Monday, a feat that could never happen with the old Malibu, even with Oprah’s help. The Malibu was given to retired U.S. Army corporal and Purple Heart recipient Trent Brining, who received his medal when a rocket-propelled grenade delivered severe injuries to his arms and legs while on patrol in Baghdad in 2005. Brining is currently a financial advisor for a local credit union near Overland Park, Kansas, 30 minutes south of where his new Malibu will be assembled later this year in nearby Fairfax.Over the next two days, GM will select four other individuals to receive a new vehicle built in the region where they reside. The giveaways are in celebration of the automaker’s 500-millionth vehicle to leave the assembly line. Barra added her company expects to sell “more than 1,000 new vehicles per hour, 24 hours per day” during 2015, a figure that would deliver an … [Read more...] about GM Gives Away 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, Invests $174 Million In Kansas
