Despite occupying very similar positions in the market, the respective routes taken by the Megane Trophy and Golf TCR could hardly be more different. The Renault comes into this test with something to prove, a small Trophy raft of nipping and tucking arriving much sooner in the lifecycle than last time around, presumably after some less than glowing reports for the Megane 280. The Golf, on the other hand, is very much in the autumn of its life, seemingly here to remind all around that it's still the consummate hot hatch package. Just as it was on launch in 2013, just as it has remained ever since. Both, though, represent a concerted shift to a more focussed brand of hot hatch. It was the commercial success of (very) fast Golfs that forced Renault Sport to gently rethink its approach to the segment, resulting in something more accommodating and a little less feral. It's fair to say that the resulting Megane hasn't proved universally popular - but it's also worth reviewing just how … [Read more...] about Renault Megane 300 Trophy vs. VW Golf GTI TCR

It is hard to overstate how important this Megane 280 is to Renault Sport, to the hot hatch market and to the people who love them. That's because, like the Clio 200 of 2013, it must replace a genre-defining model, a car celebrated for its unflinching focus, with a more accommodating, less taxing alternative. As if the pressure wasn't enough back then, it's been upped for the Megane because of the Clio's very public ostracising. Now Renault Sport has to prove to those enthusiasts that this five-door only, auto-if-you-want-it path really is the correct one, while also competing against the most compellingly complete range of rivals to be seen in a very long time. What Renault is surely aiming for (and what buyers will want) is a hot hatch with the immersion of a Civic Type R and the easy going sensibilities of a Golf GTI - much less risks it featuring amongst the also rans. And while a launch drive promised plenty, limiting a drive of the Cup chassis equipped, manual gearboxed car to … [Read more...] about Renault Sport Megane 280 Cup vs. Hyundai i30 N
Tweet TweetRenault has quite the interesting product in their Megane Sedan Fluence and we’ve just received confirmation that it will receive a facelift. The French car maker didn’t say anything specific but their collaboration with a certain manufacturer from Korea just released a new product. It’s name is… Renault-Samsung. That’s the company that just unveiled the 2013 version of the SM3 sedan. It is called something else but essentially we’re looking at the next gen Fluence. Also, the fact that this is a mid-life facelift doesn’t entice to that much work on behalf of the manufacturer due to financial reasons. All that seems to be happening is a redesigned front end. There’s a new bumper, redesigned headlights and fog lamp surrounds. We’d say the radiator grille was also changed but it’s not certain that Renault will bring that change over to Europe. What is very likely to roll on over to the old continent is the new set of … [Read more...] about Renault Fluence facelift previewed in Korea
