Aston Martin boss Mike Krack says the responsibility is on them to give Lance Stroll the tools to improve his results, which they have “failed to do lately”. Minus a rare horror show for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin last time out in Singapore, generally across the F1 2023 campaign this has been an extremely effective team and driver partnership in the first season together. With seven podium finishes overall, his most recent coming via a P2 at the Dutch GP, Alonso has been spearheading Aston Martin’s bid to secure P2 in the Constructors’ Championship, but it is Stroll’s struggles to contend with Alonso’s performances which are hurting Aston Martin in that mission. Aston Martin must improve for Lance Stroll While Alonso has put 170 points on the board so far this season, Stroll has added only 47 to Aston Martin’s total, with the Singapore Grand Prix proving to be a traumatic affair for Stroll as he suffered a huge Q1 crash, which while he thankfully walked away from without … [Read more...] about Aston Martin boss reveals where team must help Lance Stroll match Fernando Alonso

Lance Stroll out of the Singapore Grand Prix in joint decision with Aston Martin
Lance Stroll will not line up on the Singapore Grand Prix grid having taken the decision “together” with Aston Martin to sit out the race. Stroll suffered a massive crash in Saturday’s qualifying at the Marina Bay circuit when the Canadian clipped the kerbs through the final corner and lost the rear of his AMR23. He speared into the outside wall at speed, his car almost airborne, before spinning back across the circuit. Lance Stroll is ‘still sore’ after his qualifying crash He was taken to the track’s medical centre where he was cleared of serious injury but on Sunday morning made the call with Aston Martin to sit out the race. The team statement read: “The team face a huge job repairing the car today and Lance is still sore following such a high impact. Lance’s focus now shifts to fully recovering ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.” Team boss Mike Krack added: “The whole team are relieved that Lance was able to step out of the car after yesterday’s accident – however, he … [Read more...] about Lance Stroll out of the Singapore Grand Prix in joint decision with Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso denies frustration with Aston Martin following ‘significant’ issue in Singapore
Fernando Alonso isn’t letting Aston Martin’s gradual tailing off of performance get to him, saying big steps are planned for next season. While Aston Martin’s AMR23 started the season as one of the quickest cars on the grid, allowing Fernando Alonso to score six podiums in the first seven races and keep Aston Martin in the running for championship runners-up, the season has gotten away from the Silverstone-based team somewhat. While there are still flashes of speed, the AMR23 appears to have been surpassed by Ferrari and Mercedes, while McLaren’s mid-season upgrades also appear to have given the Woking-based squad the edge for the final stages of the year. Fernando Alonso not frustrated by Aston Martin tail-off Last weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix was the first race of the season in which Aston Martin failed to score a point – Lance Stroll failed to make the start after deciding together with the team to sit out the race following a hefty crash in Saturday qualifying. … [Read more...] about Fernando Alonso denies frustration with Aston Martin following ‘significant’ issue in Singapore
Aston Martin make ‘not geared up’ admission following F1 2023 lost ground
Aston Martin have struggled to maintain their status as the second-fastest team in F1 2023, team boss Mike Krack admitting they are “not geared up” yet to hang with their rivals in the development war. Eyebrows were raised when Fernando Alonso decided to swap Alpine for Aston Martin in time for the F1 2023 campaign, Lawrence Stroll having been investing in his Aston Martin team to make them a future title-contending force, though a team that managed only P7 in last season’s Constructors’ Championship. That decision has proven to be a masterstroke from Alonso though, who has claimed seven podium finishes across the campaign so far as he battles Lewis Hamilton over P3 in the Drivers’ Championship. Aston Martin lacking tools to hang with top teams However, while Aston Martin were regarded as the second-fastest team behind Red Bull through the early stages of F1 2023, that order has now become more distorted, with Mercedes and Ferrari having made gains, while McLaren has surged … [Read more...] about Aston Martin make ‘not geared up’ admission following F1 2023 lost ground
Fernando Alonso hits back at Aston Martin detractors as McLaren close in
Fernando Alonso believes his finishing position of P8 in the Japanese Grand Prix was not a fully accurate reflection of Aston Martin’s pace. On a weekend where McLaren had qualified P2 and P3, Aston Martin knew a strong result at Suzuka was essential as they fight to retain P4 in the Constructors’ Championship against their rapidly-improving rival. That was not what went down though, Alonso crossing the line P8 while McLaren delivered a double podium to slash Aston Martin’s Constructors’ advantage to 49 points. Fernando Alonso admits strategy cost Aston Martin Alonso was critical of his team over the radio after pitting him on Lap 12 to swap the soft tyres for hards, claiming they had “thrown me to the lions” as Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton overtook. And without what he saw as an error on the strategy front, Alonso felt a better result was possible. “It was a good race,” he told media after the Japanese GP. “I think mega start, up to P6 and then we had a good pace in … [Read more...] about Fernando Alonso hits back at Aston Martin detractors as McLaren close in
McLaren make Aston Martin warning after huge Japan Constructors’ points haul
McLaren’s Zak Brown and Lando Norris believe Aston Martin’s fourth-place in the Constructors’ Championship is now a realistic target. McLaren are quickly reeling in Aston Martin in the Constructors’ Championship, in what has been a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for both teams since the start of the year. While Aston Martin were amongst the quickest teams at season start, with McLaren struggling, the development cycle through the year has seen the AMR23 slip away from the front, while the MCL60 has become one of the quickest cars on the grid. Zak Brown: McLaren are coming for Aston Martin With two poor races for Aston Martin in Singapore and Japan – scoring just a single eighth place with Fernando Alonso at Suzuka – McLaren’s double podium finish to follow up Norris’ podium in Singapore has meant the gap between fourth and fifth has been cut to just 49 points with six races to go. Speaking to Sky F1 after the Japanese GP, Zak Brown said he believes the gap is … [Read more...] about McLaren make Aston Martin warning after huge Japan Constructors’ points haul
Aston Martin hand debut Formula 1 test to Jessica Hawkins
Aston Martin’s driver ambassador Jessica Hawkins has succeeded Tatiana Calderon as the most recent female driver of a contemporary Formula 1 car. 28-year-old Jessica Hawkins shared testing duties with reserve driver Felipe Drugovich for a private test of Aston Martin’s AMR21 at the Hungaroring last week, becoming the first female driver since Tatiana Calderon’s tests with Alfa Romeo at the end of 2018 to take the wheel of a contemporary Formula 1 car. Having competed in W Series, Hawkins was signed by Aston Martin in 2021 as a driver ambassador, and has completed plenty of preparatory sim work ahead of being given the chance to take the wheel of an ex-Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll AMR21 for the test in Budapest. Jessica Hawkins completes Formula 1 test Details about the test are sparse, with Aston Martin only confirming that Hawkins had completed “several runs” over the course of the day and matched the reference lap times she had been set. “I want to say a big thank you … [Read more...] about Aston Martin hand debut Formula 1 test to Jessica Hawkins
Aston Martin team boss weighs in on Fernando Alonso’s ‘to the lions’ complaint
As Fernando Alonso let rip at Aston Martin for throwing him “to the lions”, Mike Krack says he is fine with his driver’s comments as he wants a passionate driver. Starting the Japanese Grand Prix on soft tyres, Alonso jumped up to sixth place in the early running but it alas meant an early pit stop for the Spaniard given the high temperatures and high degradation. Coming out in the thick of the traffic, he wasn’t impressed and let the team know his thoughts. Aston Martin boss ‘fine’ with Alonso’s passionate radio messages “You’ve thrown me to the lions by stopping that early, mate,” he said over the radio. “Unbelievable!” The double World Champion recovered to finish the grand prix in eighth place and accused FOM of “the same classic theme, the classic FOM radio, completely out of context” radio messages. He added that while he was “not angry” with his pit wall , he was “upset because the first stop I think it was too early. I didn’t argue. I knew that we stopped too … [Read more...] about Aston Martin team boss weighs in on Fernando Alonso’s ‘to the lions’ complaint
Revealed: Aston Martin post worrying financial figures for F1 2022 campaign
Aston Martin’s released financials for 2022 show large losses for the F1 team, despite an increase in income from sponsorship and prizes. Aston Martin’s accounts for the financial year 2022 have been published through the UK’s Companies House, showing that the team made bigger financial losses last year as they went through significant expansion. Year-on-year figures show turnover rose from £150 million to just under £188 million, thanks to increases in sponsorship investment as well as increased prize money.
