Lance Stroll’s failure to show up in Monaco comes at a time when Aston Martin are attempting to secure their place near the front in F1, but this is a team originally created to be his platform. Going back just three months, it seemed unfathomable that Fernando Alonso would prove one of the revelations of the season, with the two-time World Champion scoring five podiums from six races and only just missing out on third place in the other. Only Max Verstappen can boast more podium appearances, and Alonso’s metronomic consistency, long a critical weapon in his armoury, shows no sign of fading away any time soon. Alonso is no stranger to competitive F1 cars, having won two world titles in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, plus his 2007 season at McLaren and spending years trying to bring glory to Maranello during his Ferrari stint. But that same comfort and ease isn’t there for team-mate Lance Stroll, who appears to be struggling to come to terms with the competitiveness of the … [Read more...] about Aston Martin dilemma? Refreshed Aston Martin Vantage Rendered With DB12 Influences
In March this year, Aston Martin’s chairman Lawrence Stroll announced the automaker will introduce at least three overhauled models this year. The first to arrive was the new DB12 and recent spy photos showed a refreshed version of the Vantage is also under development. Thanks to new unofficial renderings, we now know what the two-seater could look like when it arrives later this year. These drawings by our friends at Kolesa.ru propose a radical design change for the front fascia of the Vantage. Spy photos (see the related links below) have already revealed there’s indeed a redesigned front end in the cards and these renderings propose a look that is heavily inspired by the recently unveiled DB12 . Also worth pointing out is that the giant radiator grille at the front matches the look of the spied prototypes. Fernando Alonso’s manager lifts lid on actual Honda relationship status
Fernando Alonso “still respects Honda and its staff”, according to his manager Alberto Fernandez, with Alonso’s previous comments about the Japanese marque having been brought back into the limelight in recent days. The news of Honda and Alonso’s current team, Aston Martin, announcing a works power unit partnership from the 2026 season onwards brought up questions surrounding the two-time World Champion’s feelings surrounding the last time he worked with them – infamously dubbing their then-underperforming PU a “GP2 engine” while at McLaren. Given their previous association from 2015 to 2017, Honda figures were asked about Alonso at the announcement of their deal and whether or not they would be willing to work together again – and they did not rule out a future partnership with the Spaniard, dubbing him a “genius” driver whom they “respect highly”. “If the team decides we’ll have Alonso as a driver again, we will have no objections whatsoever on him driving,” Honda Racing … [Read more...] about Fernando Alonso’s manager lifts lid on actual Honda relationship status
The ‘lovely moment’ between Max Verstappen and Alonso not picked up by cameras
Formula 1 presenter Tom Clarkson revealed there was a “lovely moment” of “genuine respect” between Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso that went uncaptured by cameras after a gruelling qualfying session in Monaco on Saturday. The Red Bull and Aston Martin drivers had just gone toe-to-toe in the battle for pole position around Formula 1’s tightest circuit, with Verstappen somehow overturning a two-tenth deficit to Alonso in the final sector to steal top spot on the grid in one of the most memorable qualifying sessions in the sport for a long while. Alonso came agonisingly close to a first pole in almost 11 years, admitting he took “uncomfortable risks” on his lap to try and beat Verstappen around Monte Carlo, but he finished just 0.084s shy of the benchmark set by the World Championship leader on Saturday. It was clear that the two had expended every ounce of energy in trying to get every bit of lap time they could in the most important qualifying session of the season, given how … [Read more...] about The ‘lovely moment’ between Max Verstappen and Alonso not picked up by cameras
Helmut Marko clarifies Barcelona deadline talk on Nyck de Vries’ F1 future
Nyck de Vries appears to be heading in the right direction to save his F1 career after Helmut Marko delivered his latest assessment on the struggling Dutch driver. The 28-year-old has been inching ever closer to Red Bull’s chopping block after struggling to make any real impression at AlphaTauri in the early stages of the F1 2023 season. The situation escalated further earlier in May when Marko issued a “yellow card” warning to De Vries and name-checked junior drivers such as Liam Lawson and Ayumu Iwasa as potential replacements. That was also followed by a suggestion that the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend had been earmarked as De Vries’ last race to save himself – but Red Bull’s motorsport advisor has now said there is never a fixed date in mind with any under-pressure driver. “There is never a deadline. We just watch it and look at the performances,” Marko told Motorsport.com. “When we have to act, then we will act. At the moment we don’t do anything.” PlanetF1’s … [Read more...] about Helmut Marko clarifies Barcelona deadline talk on Nyck de Vries’ F1 future
