The FIA has officially announced the opening of its application process for new “entities with a serious intent to enter Formula 1”, to join the grid in the future. Following on from FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem saying a new ‘expressions of interest’ process will take place for prospective new teams to stake their claim to join Formula 1, the governing body has now opened its application window to do so. The FIA say the process for judging applications will involve “thorough due diligence”, including the “technical capabilities and resources of the applicant team, the ability of the team to raise and maintain sufficient funding to allow participation in the Championship at a competitive level and the team’s experience and human resources.” Alongside this, prospective teams will also have to show how they are able to commit to Formula 1’s sustainability target of net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 as another condition of entry, in order to meet the “mutual aims” of … [Read more...] about FIA officially open applications for new F1 teams and reveal new requirements

Bank of England rate hike says ‘too soon to declare victory’
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 15 LONDON (AP) — The Bank of England announced another “forceful” increase in interest rates Thursday, saying it was too soon to declare victory against inflation that has slowed slightly but is still fueling a cost-of-living crisis, public-sector strikes and fears of recession. The bank raised its key rate by half a percentage point, to 4%, resisting the temptation to follow the U.S. Federal Reserve in easing its response to the crisis. The British central bank has approved four straight increases of a half-point or more since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine triggered sharp rises in food and energy prices. “We have done a lot on rates already … but it is too soon to declare victory just yet,” bank Gov. Andrew Bailey said at a news conference. “Inflationary pressures are still there … and we need to be absolutely sure … [Read more...] about Bank of England rate hike says ‘too soon to declare victory’

Exclusive: Sebastian Vettel given extra time to decide on future as GPDA director
Sebastian Vettel could continue on as a director of the GPDA with drivers waiting until the new season to give the German the chance to mull it over. The four-time World Champion, who retired from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season, has served as a director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) since 2010, becoming a popular member within the paddock. Despite his retirement, which came after 299 races, Vettel’s departure from the GPDA is not a certainty as even those currently without a seat are permitted to stay on in the role. Chairman Alex Wurz is an example of that, with the Austrian last racing in F1 in 2007 but he returned seven years later to take up his current position. Speaking exclusively to PlanetF1.com, Wurz revealed that Vettel’s future with the organisation has not yet been decided and that the current members chose to wait until the new season before making a move to allow Vettel time to think it over. “We will decide on [Vettel’s role] during … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Sebastian Vettel given extra time to decide on future as GPDA director
2016 Monaco Grand Prix tyre strategies and pit stops · RaceFans
For the second year in a row the early leader of the Monaco Grand Prix lost their chance for victory in the pits. While 12 months ago Lewis Hamilton made an unnecessary visit to the pits during a Safety Car period, this time Red Bull weren’t ready in time to get Daniel Ricciardo back on track in the lead. The RB12 sat in the pit box for an agonising ten seconds while the mechanics hurried to get super-soft tyres on Ricciardo’s car. He rejoined the track just asHamilton was passing by. The Mercedes driver avenged his lost win of last year, but it was a cruel outcome for Ricciardo. 2016 Monaco Grand Prix tyre strategies The tyre strategies for each driver: Stint 1 Stint 2 Stint 3 Stint 4 Stint 5 Lewis Hamilton Wet (31) Ultra soft (47) Daniel Ricciardo Wet (23) Intermediate (9) Super soft (46) Sergio Perez Wet (21) Intermediate (9) Soft (48) Sebastian Vettel Wet (13) Intermediate (18) Soft (47) Fernando Alonso Wet (14) … [Read more...] about 2016 Monaco Grand Prix tyre strategies and pit stops · RaceFans
What is included on the FIA list of requirements for new Formula 1 entrants?
The FIA has announced the opening of its application process for prospective new Formula 1 teams, and they have set out their requirements for what they want from their applicants. In an accompanying document with their announcement of the opening of expressions of interest, motorsport’s governing body revealed in more detail what prospective entrants are expected to provide in the application process. Along with a total $300,000 application fee, the governing body is asking for several relevant documents surrounding the people running the team itself, including details about the company, the owner, and the request to sign a non-disclosure agreement about the application process itself while it is ongoing. The FIA say a full list of requirements will be sent to prospective teams once expressions of interest have been filed, and Liberty Media, Formula 1’s commercial rights holder, may add criteria of their own as the application process unfolds. But as for now, among the FIA’s … [Read more...] about What is included on the FIA list of requirements for new Formula 1 entrants?
Lotus make leaps but no one can touch Mercedes · RaceFans
The Chinese Grand Prix may have been another point-less outing for Lotus but the green shoots of recovery at the team are clear to see. Romain Grosjean took them into Q3 for the first time this year in Shanghai. The fact he was frustrated at his eventual starting position of tenth shows his aim has been raised considerably higher since their miserable start to the season in Melbourne, where both cars were ejected in Q1. In Sunday’s race Grosjean spent almost every lap in the top ten until his fourth gear failed, forcing him to retire. But Pastor Maldonado reached the chequered flag, underlining the progress made by the team who just three races ago had only managed a total of 19 laps during practice. “Romain had been running reasonably well in the points and able to race his rivals, and a points finish was realistic,” said trackside operations director Alan Permane. “Pastor did a great job from the back of the grid to finish in fourteenth.” “For Barcelona we have more … [Read more...] about Lotus make leaps but no one can touch Mercedes · RaceFans
