Our latest Used Car Review is dedicated to the BMW 5 Series, and in particular the sixth-generation model, known as the F10. Built between 2010 and 2016 it was sold in saloon and Touring (estate) forms and with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. In our CarGurus Used Car Video Review we explain the pros and cons of each, as well as flag a few areas to look out for. For example, not all saloons come with folding rear seats, which is a consideration if you want to be able to extend the load bay, and while some models ride the bumps with ease others can feel less accomplished depending upon specification. The car in our video is a 530d, sourced from used car supermarket Fords of Winsford. Finished in silver and riding on 18-inch alloy wheels it certainly looks the part, while on the inside the superb leather seats, excellent driving position and hi-tech iDrive infotainment system make it feel suitably upmarket. As you’d expect of a big BMW the 5 Series chews … [Read more...] about Daily coverage of the world of cars. Six weeks ago officials revealed they were contacting around 2,500 NHS patients and just more than 110 private patients after a Royal College of Physicians report raised concerns over Dr Michael Watt. Former patients of Dr Watt have since told this newspaper that they were “living in agony” and believe this is as a result of treatment they received from the medic. … [Read more...] about First picture of the doctor being probed after massive patient recall

(From track press release) BARRE — While the Thunder Road season has already officially opened, things will get serious for the Maplewood/Irving Late Model division this Sunday, May 27. The 56th Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic opens the 2018 “King of the Road” chase with a special 100-lap event for the track’s local stars. Entering the Late Model season, the only certainty is that there will not be a back-to-back champion. Reigning “King of the Road” Bobby Therrien stated recently that he is running a limited Thunder Road schedule in 2018 and will not defend the title. This leaves the door open for a number of contenders to climb atop the throne. Barre’s Jason Corliss already has a win at Thunder Road this year in the Community Bank 150 for the American-Canadian Tour. He also won four features at Thunder Road last year. South Burlington’s Trampas Demers had the best season of his career in 2017. He finished second to Therrien in points … [Read more...] about Thunder Road to Crown New “King of the Road” in 2018
“Deadpool” was gleefully naughty in the way that it shook up the comic-book-movie genre in 2016, raising the violence to a hard-core level and featuring a smart-mouthed, smut-mouthed hero.It raised the bar for these movies — or lowered it, depending on how much decorum you demand of your superheroes — and we are better for it, thanks in large part to Ryan Reynolds being a perfect match of talent for the material.“Deadpool 2” is not a perfect film, but it’s almost a perfect follow-up to such irreverence: It’s one of the funniest movies you’ll see this year, visually spectacular and consistently entertaining. For pure summer fun, this is a fizzy-mixed-drink-on-the-patio kind of movie compared to the solemn nature of “Avengers: Infinity War.”Deadpool was this era’s first R-rated hero based on a Marvel Comics character, featuring an outrageous Reynolds playing Wade Wilson, an unconventional anti-hero “bad … [Read more...] about Movie review: Get ready for in-your-face entertainment in ‘Deadpool 2,’ one of the funniest movies of the year
That night I lay in bed, unable to sleep, replaying the lap in my head, again and again and again. Just three corners of Silverstone’s International Circuit in Northamptonshire, England, had changed everything. Norms smashed, benchmarks tossed aside. The edges of the envelope reduced to blurry lines in the distance. I’ve hot-lapped road cars on racetracks for more than 30 years, but nothing I’ve never driven comes close to the majestic McLaren Senna. Abbey into Farm Curve, a sweeping right-left sequence just past Silverstone’s magnificent F1 pitlane complex. 150 mph in fifth, hard on the brakes where the curb starts at the left, and back to fourth. Turn in early and then back on the gas well before the apex. Understeer builds gently. 100 mph. The outside edge of the track rushes into peripheral vision. Don’t lift! Keep looking through the corner—hands follow eyes—find the clipping point the left-hander. There! Roll the wrists, and the orange … [Read more...] about 2019 McLaren Senna Prototype Review: Lap of the Gods
Maryland transportation officials, facing criticism of the state’s handling of track problems that have shut down Baltimore’s Metro for repairs, requested an outside review on Thursday of the Maryland Transit Administration’s handling of maintenance issues on the subway. The review request comes as the Federal Transit Administration is conducting its own review of the problems with Metro SubwayLink, said Erin Henson, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Transportation.MTA Administrator Kevin B. Quinn Jr. said in a letter that MTA officials have met with FTA representatives to brief them on the subway shutdown. He said a joint MTA-FTA team has conducted a safety oversight “track walk” of the Metro line. The FTA could not be reached for comment late Thursday. In his letter to the American Public Transit Association, Quinn asked that group to name a panel of experts to perform a “peer review” of the MTA’s maintenance practices for the … [Read more...] about MTA administrator asks for peer review of agency’s handling of Baltimore Metro track issues

REMARKABLE. Outstanding. Slightly disappointing. All could describe the history of the Kawasaki ZX-10. The 2004 was an animal, the 2006 had gained a few pounds yet still flew, and the 2008 model was put on a diet to become a lean, mean, fabulous machine. The pinnacle was the 2011 version, with the 2016 a bit hit-and-miss before last year’s ZX-10RR raised the game. Which brings us to the present day and the ZX-10R SE – or Special Edition. But what makes it so special? It’s a mix of the standard ZX-10R (same engine) and the ZX-10RR (quick shifters and Marchesini wheels). It doesn’t have the race-ready engine but has the new all-singing, all-dancing Showa electronic suspension. The dynamics between the throttle and clutch as you pull away are smoother than pretty much anything else out there. Although there isn’t a lot of lowdown grunt, the road manners of the bike are excellent. The brakes are great and the quick shifter and blipper is one of the best … [Read more...] about Kawasaki ZX-10R review: Is the new special edition of famous motorbike a winner – or overpriced at £20,000?
The mid-size Volvo XC60 has taken out World Car of the Year, beating the Mazda CX-5 and Range Rover Velar to the coveted title. There were 34 models entered in the award, which was cut down to just 10 competitors and then the three finalists listed above. A panel of 82 automotive journalists from 24 countries is responsible for voting on the award, and the votes are tallied by KPMG. “I am pleased to see our company’s product investments paying off,” said Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars. “We are up against some tough competition, but this award for the XC60 shows that Volvo has the right combination of design, connectivity and safety that appeals to customers across the world.” CarAdvice is among the XC60’s fans: Mike Costello said the D5 R-Design “makes significant improvements over its tired predecessor”, describing at as “a genuine match for the best luxury SUVs Germany can muster”. Other award winners … [Read more...] about Volvo XC60 wins World Car of the Year
