Another Friday, which means it’s time again for the weekly fuel price update. As was the case last week, the price of both RON 95 and RON 97 will be going up this coming week, but there’s no change in the price of diesel. From tomorrow, February 16, RON 95 will be priced at RM1.98 per litre (up one sen from RM1.97 last week), while RON 97 will go for RM2.28 per litre (also up one sen from RM2.27 last week). As for Euro 2M diesel, it continues to be priced at RM2.18 per litre, while Euro 5 diesel, which is always 10 sen more than standard diesel, remains at RM2.28 per litre. The government said that the increase in retail price at the pump was unavoidable due to the global price increase in the refined product – in the case of RON 95, this increased to US$63 (RM257) per barrel compared to the US$62 (RM253) from the previous week. It added that the pump price of diesel was unchanged despite it being increased from US$73 (RM298) to US$74 (RM302) per barrel, which would … [Read more...] about Feb 2019 week three fuel price

I will have failed if road fatalities go up in 5 years: Loke
Transport minister Anthony Loke has said that he will have failed as a minister if road fatalities continue to increase at the end of his five-year mandate. Speaking to Astro Awani, he stressed the importance of lowering the death toll in Malaysia, adding that it was for the wellbeing of the people. “In 2017, the number of road fatalities was 6,740 people. That means an average of 19 people die on the roads every day, and that number has to decrease,” he said. “At the end of these five years, if that number does not decrease, then I would have failed. I would be too embarrassed to remain a minister. That’s why I have made it my mission, my responsibility, to reduce the number of fatal accidents.” Loke said that the government needs to employ stricter enforcement as well as a “carrot and stick” approach, providing incentives to encourage safer driving. One of the initiatives being looked into is a discount on insurance premiums if drivers do not … [Read more...] about I will have failed if road fatalities go up in 5 years: Loke

MIROS lauds growing adoption of dashboard cameras
The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has lauded the growing adoption of dashboard camera in vehicles, saying that the installation of the device is a positive development, Bernama reports. Its director-general Siti Zaharah Ishak said that the usage of driving recorders was in tandem with the efforts of the institute and the transport ministry to encourage the public to be the “eyes and ears” of the authorities in providing information, including on road accidents. She said that footage can serve as additional information in identifying the cause of accidents. “For example, when an accident occurs, driver negligence is often initially cited as the cause. However, after an investigation with the aid of the dashcam, it is found that other factors were the cause, such as a burst tyre sending the vehicle out of control,” she told the national news agency. Siti Zaharah said dashcams should be installed in ambulances, police patrol vehicles and fire … [Read more...] about MIROS lauds growing adoption of dashboard cameras
Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in KL to be partly closed off to all vehicles except buses starting from March 15
From March 15, 2019 onwards, a one-km stretch of Jalan Tuanku Abdual Rahman (Jalan TAR) from the Jalan Esfahan intersection to the Jalan Melayu intersection will be closed to all vehicles except buses. Federal Territories minister Khalid bin Abdul Samad stated the closure would allow businesses and shoppers in the area to carry out their activities without having to deal with the constant traffic. He added that buses were allowed as there are no alternative roads in the area with a suitable turning radius for them to pass through. Should the closure prove to be beneficial, the Ramadan bazaar along Jalan Masjid India, which is being relocated this year, may be allowed to operate from Jalan TAR. The decision for the limited vehicle ban comes after Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) conducted an online survey posted on its Facebook page. “We received about 1,000 responses, out of which 57% agreed and 43% disagreed,” said Khalid. “We intend to make the area starting from Sogo … [Read more...] about Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in KL to be partly closed off to all vehicles except buses starting from March 15
