Hyundai is staging the media launch of the Veloster N at the Nürburgring and a new report is suggesting the company has confirmed a stand-alone halo model. In an interview with Auto Express, the head of Hyundai’s high performance vehicle and motorsport division said the launch of the i30 N and Veloster N represent the “first phase of N vehicles.” Thomas Schemera reportedly went on to say the next phase will involve the creation a bespoke sports car that won’t be based on an existing Hyundai model. Little is known about the car, but Schemera said “The whole idea is to strengthen the Hyundai brand, to bring more emotion.” This suggests the car will be a high-performance halo model with an emotional design that brings plenty of attention to Hyundai and the company’s N brand. Schemera went on to say “I can tell you Albert Biermann [Hyundai’s head of high performance development] and myself are interested in hot things and have some … [Read more...] about Hyundai High Performance Vehicle Boss Reportedly Confirms Plan For Stand-Alone N model
A prototype of the next-generation Hyundai Sonata was recently spied testing on the streets of South Korea. While that alone is pretty interesting, what makes the prototype in question particularly intriguing is that its roof has been adorned with solar panels. The image above, snapped by The Korean Car Blog, shows a Sonata testing with black fabric covering most of its redesigned body panels. Look at the roof and you’ll notice it is made up almost entirely of solar panels. Of course, there are a number of production vehicles that have been available with solar panels on their roofs. For example, the 2010 Toyota Prius was offered with such a roof and in Japan, the Toyota Prius Prime can also be equipped with solar panels on its roof. In this application, the roof provides enough power to run the vehicle’s accessories and can charge the lithium-ion battery pack, offering up to 3.7 miles of additional electric range per day. If Hyundai intends on offering a similar roof on … [Read more...] about Why Does This Hyundai Sonata Prototype Have Solar Panels On Its Roof?
Hyundai’s first N-branded model to be offered in the US is officially introduced to the media at the German Nurburgring. The new 2019 Hyundai Veloster N, first revealed at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, is set to become the brand’s “highest performance vehicle ever for the U.S. market”. With development taking place at Hyundai’s Nurburgring testing center, it was only appropriate for the company to pick this place for the first driving impressions of the media. “Veloster N takes Hyundai to a new level of purchase consideration for true driving enthusiasts in the U.S. market,” said Albert Biermann, president and head of Performance Development and High Performance Vehicle Division, Hyundai Motor Group. “The Veloster N is another example of Hyundai Motor’s capabilities, creating an exciting sports car with thrilling dynamics combined with a compelling affordability equation as key to the N high-performance concept.” Power comes … [Read more...] about 2019 Hyundai Veloster N Introduced -Where Else?- At The Nurburgring
If someone asked you what a “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” drives, you’d probably mention an Acura NSX or Audi R8. You’d never respond with a Hyundai Kona, unless you’re insane or work for Hyundai’s marketing department. Unfortunately, the latter has occurred as Hyundai used the San Diego Comic-Con to introduce the Kona Iron Man Edition. Before you start wishing Avengers: Infinity War had an alternative ending, Hyundai claims the compact crossover has a number of special touches to make it worthy of Tony Stark. We’re not exactly buying it, but the automaker says the Kona has custom daytime running lights that “closely resemble the facemask and eye shape of the Iron Man suit.” The model has also been equipped with a V-shaped accent on the hood as well as an Iron Man motif which is thankfully hidden on the roof where no one will see it. Other touches include Stark Industries decals and 18-inch alloy wheels with an Iron … [Read more...] about Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition Is All Sorts Of Wrong
An apparent problem with the Theta II engines in certain Hyundais and Kias has reportedly ensnared another motorist. According to local news affiliate NBC 5 in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of northern Texas, Linda Creech was driving her 2014 Kia Soul down the freeway last October with her son on board when another driver flagged her down. Both pulled over and saw flames emanating from under her vehicle. So they ran, “And the next thing the car just exploded,” Creech told NBC 5. “Like a Mission Impossible movie without Tom Cruise.” It’s the second such incident reported by the same station, which previously reported how one Amy McDade’s 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid was similarly engulfed in flames. Both drivers say they had recently had their cars in for service, and claim the manufacturer isn’t doing enough to address the issue. “I open my door to get out and there were flames all underneath the car,” said McDade “I could have burned … [Read more...] about Kias Keep Catching Fire As NHTSA Investigates
Hyundai has made a few changes to their 2018 Sonata PHEV, which follows hot on the heels of the gasoline and Hybrid models, detailed earlier this year. The base model has a starting price of $33,250 in the United States, or $1,350 less than before, while the Sonata Plug-In Hybrid Limited is $250 more expensive, at $38,850, without the $885 freight charge. Both versions of the sedan are using the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 67hp (68PS / 50kW) electric motor, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor is 32 percent more powerful than the one used in the Sonata Hybrid, and takes its juice from a 9.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Hyundai claims the updated Sonata PHEV can travel for up to 600 miles (966 km) on a single charge, stating that the battery can be recharged completely in 2 hours and 42 minutes via a 240V Level 2 charging station, or overnight, with the Level 1 charger that equips the car. Hyundai has come a long way in the last decade. No longer is it the butt of automotive jokes, but instead a South Korean juggernaut that continues to swell in size, push forward with the development of advanced technologies, and produce new and appealing products. The future looks bright for Hyundai. Its current models offer excellent value-for-money and are starting to look more and more appealing. One key reason for this is the introduction of its new ‘Sensuous Sportiness‘ design language, premiered by the Hyundai Lafesta earlier this year. Future Hyundai models will adopt similarly bold designs and unlike many of its rivals, Hyundai won’t adopt a Russian doll philosophy. In fact, the company recently said that it will implement distinct designs across its range now that it has built up its brand around the world. Throughout the next two years, things should only get better for Hyundai. Here’s some of what we’ll see. There have been countless rumors about a Hyundai pickup truck ever since the company unveiled the critically acclaimed Santa Cruz concept at the North American International Auto Show in 2015. While the model isn’t expected to go into production until 2020, a possible Hyundai pickup has finally been spotted. Post by Almuraba.net, the pictures show a handful of heavily camouflaged prototypes in a parking lot. The images don’t reveal much, but we can see the model is a crew cab pickup with a long hood, sweptback headlights and a relatively rakish windscreen – for a truck at least. Moving further back, the model has an upward sweeping belt line, a flat roof and a nearly vertical rear window. The bed appears to be pretty accommodating for the truck’s size and it also features an integrated liner. As with most trucks, the rear end is relatively plain as the model has vertical taillights and a rear bumper which is nicely integrated into the body. The truck … [Read more...] about Possible Hyundai Truck Prototype Spied, Doesn’t Appear To Be The Santa Cruz
PREMIUM carmaker BMW makes the least reliable motors, with 192 problems per 100 vehicles found by consumer insight firm J.D. Power. The German manufacturer's cars range from £22,450 to a whopping £124,735-plus for its hybrid i8 Roadster supercar. On the other end of the scale is Hyundai's cars that only incurred 78 problems per 100 sample.
