Unlike the more recent B8 and B9 generations of the Audi RS4, the B7 was offered as a sedan, too, besides the Avant and Cabriolet body styles. This meant it could compete directly against the likes of the BMW M3 E90 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG W204. And the B7 RS4 isn’t just about a modified chassis, bigger brakes, specifically-tuned suspension large body kit and some changes made throughout the cabin, as is the norm with range-topping super sedans. No – what sets this one apart is the fact that it uses a naturally aspirated engine. The 4.2-liter V8 unit was shared with the first-gen Audi R8 and was mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, whose job was to channel 420PS (414hp / 308kW) and 430Nm (317lb-ft) of torque to the Quattro all-wheel drive system. While it remains to be seen if flying cars have any real future as accessible passenger vehicles, Audi, Airbus and the German government are more than eager to further explore the technology. Earlier this week, Audi, Airbus, Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer, Minister of State for Digital Affairs Dorothee Bar, and the Mayor of Ingolstadt, Dr. Christian Losel, plus other political and business representatives, signed a letter of intent to start testing air-taxis in the Ingolstadt region of Germany. No details have been provided as to when further steps in the agreement will be made, nor as to when testing may commence. Nevertheless, the news does serve to prove that many believe flying cars could play an important role in the future of mobility. “Connected, electric and autonomous cars will make urban traffic more comfortable and cleaner and will save space – that means better quality of life for people in cities,” interim chief executive and member of the … [Read more...] about Audi And Airbus Moving Forward With Flying Car Taxi Service
Not so long ago, 200 HP was more than enough for a hot hatch. Today, though, they are much more powerful in stock form – and can reach absurd numbers when tuned. This RS3 Sportback is the work of a German tuner, called HGP Turbo, who has tuned its turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder to an astonishing 606PS (597hp / 446kW) and 710Nm (524lb-ft) of torque. This has been achieved thanks to a new turbocharger, larger compressor, intake, K&N air filter, modified exhaust system and engine remapping. To cope with the insane power, the dual-clutch DSG gearbox has been updated, too. And the entire work, while not exactly cheap, didn’t cost an arm and a leg, but a relatively reasonable €15,500 ($17,984) in Germany, without the €1,400 ($1,624) installation. Hyundai and Audi, two of the biggest believers in the future of hydrogen cars, have formed a multi-year agreement to develop fuel-cell hydrogen vehicles together. Initially, the agreement will see Hyundai provide Audi with parts and know-how generated from the development of the hydrogen iX35 Fuel Cell and the all-new Nexo. Additionally, Audi will have Hyundai FCEV parts supply chain at its fingertips. The multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement also covers Kia and Audi’s parent company Volkswagen, giving all of these automakers access to each other’s technology. While the duration of the agreement hasn’t been disclosed, the companies say the partnership will elevate their respective presences in the FCEV market and help push forward the technology. “This agreement is another example of Hyundai’s strong commitment to creating a more sustainable future whilst enhancing consumers’ lives with hydrogen-powered vehicles, the fastest way to a truly … [Read more...] about Hyundai And Audi To Develop Hydrogen Technology Together

A 4.0-litre V8 diesel pinched from the Audi SQ7 will arrive towards the end of the year, while a date for the arrival of the 362bhp plug-in hybrid model has not yet been set. The Touareg is available in three trim levels. Entry-level SEL is predictably still very well equipped for its £51,595 asking price. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and has a seven-inch infotainment display with navigation. We have a two-fer for tail light design this time…well, except one is about signal lights. But I stand by my alliteration as they both exist on a car’s tail. Steve writes: On the way home the other night, I passed some vehicle with a very interesting taillight configuration. It looked like two wide, stylized “E”s facing each other, all in LED strips (see below). Not a classic car, but something new and sort of jellybean-ish. You may know what the vehicle was…any guesses? Sajeev answers: You probably saw the Volvo S90 (photo on top), certainly a unique car worthy of a Vellum Venom design critique. Volvo’s signature rear lighting treatment made its mark on many an eyeball. Kudos to its design team for cutting a unique profile while remaining aesthetically pleasing! TTAC commentator Halftruth writes: Is it me or are directional lights not as easy to see as they once were? With all of the stylized/angled/transformer styling out there now, a … [Read more...] about Piston Slap: A Tail Light Two-Fer!
Audi finally enters the premium mid-size SUV Coupe segment, offering for the first time a genuine rival to the likes of the Mercedes GLE Coupe and BMW X6. As expected, the new Audi Q8 is shorter, lower and wider than the Q7, which shares the same underpinnings. With that said, every mid-sized SUV within the Group does the same and that includes models like the Bentley Bentayga, the Porsche Cayenne and the Lamborghini Urus. Audi claims that the new Q8 offers a “versatile, sporty and elegant” package, combining the dynamic looks customers are looking in this segment with a spacious interior that’s unmatched by its direct rivals. As you would expect from a flagship SUV, the new Audi Q8 is packed with cutting edge technologies. These include features such as an optional all-wheel steering, LED lights that put on a show when you unlock the car, mild-hybrid powertrains, adaptive air suspension and of course a crystal-clear set of adjustable displays for the infotainment … [Read more...] about First Reviews Of Audi’s New Q8 Are Here: Let’s See If The BMW X6 Should Worry
Think of luxury cars and images of sports stars, internet celebrities and Middle Eastern royalty posing around Knightsbridge spring instantly to mind. But Britain’s love for all thing luxury spreads much further than that, as new research shows. While the London set might be happy to drop a couple of million on the latest hypercars, beyond the capital there’s a huge market for high-end used cars, with buyers still handing over six-figure sums for prestige models. According to a study of the best-selling used luxury cars, Harrogate is Britain’s luxury car capital, with more of the UK’s most popular £70,000+ models bought there than anywhere else. Of the 20 top-selling used luxury cars as ranked by car data specialists Cazana, six are most frequently bought in the North Yorkshire spa town. Just when you thought Audi couldn’t stretch its range any further, along comes the Q8, an answer to a question no one really was asking. Like spilt water spreading to fill every crevice, Audi is working its way towards critical mass by taking a rolling pin to its line-up and spreading it wafer thin. The German firm says the Q8 is a car for buyers who want the elegance of a luxury coupe and the convenience of a large SUV, but quite how many of those buyers exist remains to be seen. Based on the firm’s range-topping Q7 SUV, the Q8 is shorter both in height and length, but wider, and debuts the new ‘face of the Q family’ with a bold and imposing grille. What’s new? Audi is targeting buyers of the BMW X6 and Mercedes Benz GLE here, so that means the Q8 has to stand out … [Read more...] about First drive: The Audi Q8 stands out from the crowd
Volvo unveiled the 2019 S60 earlier today and it will be an attractive new addition to a highly competitive segment. Besides having to lure buyers away from crossovers, the model will need to face serious competitors such as the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class. If that wasn’t tough enough, the car will also compete with models such as the Jaguar XE and Infiniti Q50. We’ve pitted the S60 against its European rivals in a visual showdown and it’s pretty clear the car’s stylish design stands out from the crowd. The styling borrows heavily from the S90 but it seems to fit the S60 pretty well as the model has a wide grille which is flanked by Thor’s Hammer LED headlights. While the car looks pretty good, so does the Audi A4, Mercedes C-Class and Jaguar XE. The BMW 3-Series is really showing its age at this point but an all-new model is expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year. Like most of the other cars in its class, the S60 shares … [Read more...] about 2019 Volvo S60 Meets Its Euro Competitors From Audi, BMW, Mercedes And Jaguar In A Visual Showdown
