Mercedes-AMG has reportedly delayed deliveries of the F1-powered One hypercar until 2021 due to ongoing difficulties making the engine suitable for street use. Auto Motor und Sport pinpoints a number of elements of the One’s powertrain that need to be refined and claims that engineers underestimated the difficulties of posed by this very challenging task. One of the most significant challenges facing engineers is just how to make the F1-derived 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 meet WLTP emissions regulations. In addition, AMG is struggling to ensure the engine doesn’t require electric pre-heating before it turns over, like the race engine does. A V6 engine with such small displacement and high output is also reportedly quite fragile. It is obviously not easy to adapt a real engine of Formula 1 to a car of road. Hence, the fear that the much anticipated Mercedes-AMG One supercar won’t be available until 2021, two years later than initial plans. The future AMG One will be the only supercar in the world to have a Formula 1 engine. This pure supercar will indeed use the 1.6-liter turbo V6 turbo racing cars of the German brand, the same ones that dominate the championship outrageously since 2014. The Frankfurt Motor Show is little more than a month away and Mercedes will use the event to introduce a brand new concept. The company was tight-lipped on specifics, but said the vehicle “embodies the flexible, customer-oriented and sustainable vision of the Mercedes-Benz product and technology brand EQ.” That’s a lot of hyperbole, but it sounds like we can expect a new EQ concept. Besides the mysterious concept, Mercedes will stage “numerous world premieres.” These will include new plug-in hybrids and the “all-electric high-capacity sedan EQV.” The latter statement is a bit strange as the EQV concept was an electric van based on the V-Class. Furthermore, the GLB will make its auto show debut and be joined by a new AMG variant. It will presumably be the GLB 35 which is slated to have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 301 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. The engine should be connected to a … [Read more...] about Mercedes Will Introduce A Brand New Concept In Frankfurt
