Susan Selasky Detroit Free Press Published 11:01 p.m. UTC Jun 21, 2018 Cooks from 18 metro Detroit restaurants will wield spatulas Sunday to compete for the title of best burger at Eastern Market’s annual Burger Battle. The event, hosted by Fairway Packing, Dine Drink Detroit and Haute Detroit, runs from noon to 4 p.m. inside the market’s Shed 5. Cooks will come together under one roof to prepare their special grinds and shape and season their creations to impress judges and burger fans. (Full disclosure: I am a judge, as is Detroit Free Press restaurant critic Mark Kurlyandchik.) Among the participating restaurants is Frita Batidos of Ann Arbor. Last year, Frita Batidos chef and owner Eve Aronoff and her staff wowed judges with a Cuban-inspired burger made with a blend of beef chuck, brisket and short rib and topped with a sunny-side-up quail egg. Other participating restaurants are Townhouse and Brome Modern Eatery. The event comes with a live DJ and full cash bar. VIP tickets ($30 plus a handling fee) provide guests with early access beginning at noon. General admission tickets ($20 plus handling fee) allow for entry at 1 p.m. All tickets include unlimited burger samples. For tickets, go to www.burgerbattledetroit.com.
