James David Dickson The Detroit News Published 5:25 p.m. UTC May 23, 2018 One man is dead and another was shot Wednesday morning after a “scuffle” that started with an attempted theft in the Eastern Market area, police said. The fatal shooting took place before noon in the area of Riopelle and the Interstate 75 Service Drive, said Assistant Chief Arnold Williams, in a video published on the Detroit Police Department Facebook page. Williams said that three meat delivery trucks were in the area, all from the same company in Ypsilanti. One driver spotted two men in the back area of his truck, stealing meat, and confronted him. The driver and one of the men engaged in a “scuffle,” Williams said, but another one of the truck drivers got involved and pulled a weapon, shooting the man in his head, police said. The man died from his injuries. His age was not immediately available. The second man fled the scene on foot. The driver who was involved in the scuffle also received a gunshot wound to his leg. The man who allegedly fired the shots is a 35-year-old, said Lt. LaShanna Potts. Police have arrested him and recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.
